The social media companies have done the absolute bare minimum to enforce it so it's not very secure. Kids have figured out before it even came in how to fool the verification tool.

My 10 year old came up to me while I was focused on a task and took a picture of me for the verification (skull emoji) I didn't realize for ages, I thought he just wanted a photo of his mum (skull emoji).
