Cnd backwoods proto-slasher that admits blackflys exist, so already a bad time for dudes being in the moment, not a cell phone in sight. Darkness + dread that's painted thick, genuine hardship as all the comforts get stripped/lost while being hunted, including Hal Holbrook going primal to survive.

Introduced NIMH to the kids tonight. Totally rapt, as it's absolutely gorgeous, incredibly tense, w some real darkness and depth and just enuff comic relief. The plow scene, Great Owl's lair, the rats hideout beneath the rose bush, the final showdow, just increadible scenes. Bluth is the man.

Another 'new director/writer' making something new-ish in '26 that's weirder + lusher beyond what the 'spot the ingredients' reviews told me and a pretty great witchy time, a total car crash of sex, power, retail, hate, and friend dynamics, officiated by Marilyn. Doesn't care what I think, wooo!

My work commute is like 20 min, mostly 4 lane w moderate traffic and even that makes me batty so I know I'd be walking out the car and into the woods after like one day of this nightmare. Incredibly affecting liminal horror that isn't just one deep metaphor bc there's real ppl on this road. A+.

Wanted something high-octane to round out dad's day...but revisiting was the exact opposite. 50% is helicopters swooping or people going thru doors - cars, hotel rooms, labs. A-listers are spinning wheels, Giger's design is slabbed in cgi, Henstridge about as sexy as a Wallmart model. Wasted night.
Backrooms/liminal con't. A precursor to Pt. 1 focused on the grunts running the Cube as much as those trapped inside, but it's compliance for all - you didn't really think you were outside the system, did you? Acting's pretty meh but story is A+ sci-fi dystopia w the grimiest of settings.
Codswallop, proof positive that the 'elevated' horror film is eternal nonsense - if you don't have a story (or the shots), stay home. Ok, the pool scenes worked on me, always love seeing Black + Reed hamming it, but this had the 'vibes' of a 1rst-draft Twilight Zone story, not a 2 hr film.
Barnburner. Lo-fi sci-fi done bloody, another stellar entry from the McManus family. A multiverse revenge-repeat trip that has zero interest in tech and all in the grind (and brutal violence) of hunting the same monster thru dimensions, the collatoral damage from those big questions . A+, folks.
Def hits some the highest notes w these murder tableauxs w Betty's audience, ol Dario layering up the voyeur-ship for some truly fantastic scenes (that peephole shot, jeebus), the cawing of crows, a soundtrack that doesn't quit but does shift, and a story that could only happen in a giallo.
Cheering for @cynthiasaysboo.bsky.social today and Muñeca, a sassy, sapphic, snarky fairy tale that takes dead aim at the very supports that would lead to a Sleeping Beauty. Full of music + rage + longing (justice, love, a space) and some truly magical prose.
Figured since the sequel is coming. Monroe's young and the seams show a bit but "haunted like an STI" still worked for me. That electro pulse, a grimy lived-in-ness, mounting dread, de-sexifying sex/the body as it becomes a curse but then reclaimed. Riding your bike to get away. The seashell reader!
Doing possession x FF could be the laziest shit ever...or you could wrap it up a treacly doc format and get really clever w your edits to make something much more fun. +1 for that one dude noping out, that's some FF fan-service that had me howling.
