i finally submitted my book draft !!!!!!!!! it took AGES but i survived it.

When the Valley Volunteers: Tech Workers and the Vocational Politics of Doing Good tells a story about what happens when workers who stake their identities on their ability to “save the world” at their workplaces come to realize that their efforts are not going in the right place. It raises thorny questions about the possibility of “doing good” at work, and what happens when desires to do so go unfulfilled. It also shows how technologists’ efforts to work through their disillusionment have important downstream impacts on the kinds of technologies that get built ostensibly “for good” and on technologists' ability to develop meaningful relationships with community partners. In the end, the book advocates for tech workers to think of themselves less as *volunteering* and more as *organizing.*
