A good graphic about the ecology of the ghost pipe which is a parasitic perennial. I have only found them near rhododendrons which are plentiful in my area of the southern #Appalachians

Almost stepped on this Jack-in-the-pulpit on the trail. It’s a newer trail, so not many people have been on it this spring yet.
Ran across a scarlet elfcup and honestly, I just kept repeating the name of this little fungus to myself as I continued on my way. Afraid I didn’t see any elves though.

I love following animal tracks in the woods after a snowfall.
The sun came out today, but it was still very cold. Took a quick walk in the woods.
Safe to say that we’re snowed in. Also, it’s 17F outside. Those rhododendron leaves are going to stay like that for a while.
Visited the beach for a few days visiting family during the holidays. I enjoyed it, but I’m definitely a mountain gal.
Feeling a little bereft after watching the Stranger Things finale. Loved how the moms Joyce and Karen kicked ass. Also loved the credits at the end. One Halloween I dressed up like Joyce from season one, Christmas lights and all. Easiest costume ever. 😊
