When someone we love seems to resist our help, our own nervous system often becomes activated too. We may feel frightened, frustrated, or helpless. Before making decisions about what to do next, it helps to create a little more safety – for ourselves (as well as the other person). #FamilyCarers 4/4
#AlzChat other favourites include taking sketchpads and watercolour paints or colour pencils and just create colourful images ... no particular rules other than play with the colours you can see in the garden and 'feel' them on the page

#AlzChat What's one of your favourite summer activities that supports positive #dementiacare?
#AlzChat - sticking with garden related themes for summer activities in dementia care - how about an easy to use garden schedule. Can help with a sense of purpose and meaning (although just 'being' in the garden is of itself valuable and meaningful.) 🌸🌸🌸
#AlzChat - 🌸❤️ my first thoughts: summer tea and cakes in the garden! What a treat! Checklist: cakes baked earlier, decorated tablecloth, suncream, sunhat, waspinator (decoy papier-mâché wasp nest to keep others away-see next post), hand wipes, suitable chairs & ready blankets. @alzchat.bsky.cocial
Late at night, or between doing what is needed, have you ever been to Wit’s End or Marshlands -wanting home? A 4-wk creative online programme is a creative journey recognising the importance of self-compassion through tough times & the meaning of home. karrie-marshall.mykajabi.com/finding-your...

#AlzChat we’ve seen fabulous and creative connections – from marks on a page to musical theatre. Ideas with #CreativityInCare.org and #EvantonWoods included singing, collage, fairy garden log art, poetry, modelling with clay & papier-maché, drama, printing. What’s your favourite creative activity?
#AlzChat What changes or interactions have you noticed through creative approaches in dementia care? What difference does creativity make in your own life? @alzchat.bsky.social @irememberbetter.bsky.social
#AlzChat There are many different forms of dementia & each person has a unique experience. Creativity offers myriad approaches/ connections through music, visual arts, dance, design etc - in ways that go beyond verbal communication and cognitive processes. This is a favourite topic in #dementicare
Such a lovely surprise to see who was holding a copy of one of my books ! (The legendary #JackCanfield ) - www.facebook.com/share/p/191j... Find the book here at uk.jkp.com/products/a-c... #JessicaKingsleyPublishers
Looking forward to giving a talk about Love, Hope and Empowerment in Care at #ForresLibrary on Nov 6th at 7pm (Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival Moray organised by #ARTSforwellbeing) In challenging times, how can we stay compassionate without burning out? Join me for an inspiring session ❤️
The idea that peace means not having to deal with issues is a myth…. But that’s OK. If you are caring for people in this topsy turvy (and incredible) world, - give yourselves a few moments to consciously breathe. This can help calm your dear heart in the midst of a storm.
One of my mindset chapters for positive health and social care is about #compassion (These steps involve some of the other mindset principles too). #writingwithlove
And then there were two-in-the-making! After resisting good advice, I now see the sense in writing the current book as two separate works... one for staff and one for team leaders - about empowering approaches to health and social care for compassionate care without burnout. #FreshBookPlans
Writing about mirroring got deeply reflective. There are so many layers in health and social care (or any public service) encounters. Feels good to be able to unravel it with real examples. Walking helps too. Writing and walking. Perfect kind of day ❤️
Just completed a 12.5K word report, partly giving voice to people who felt afraid to go to caring services that were meant to help them. That’s when you know something has gone wrong with a system. But there’s hope. That’s the part I’m keen to explore. Dwelling in the land of possibilities. ✍️
Lots of conversations recently about health and social care services. I’ve been gathering stories for years. Glad to be writing about what could help services focus on wellness and possibility (for their staff and people accessing services), whilst acknowledging the depth of people’s experiences.
Finding some big truths about resistance in 'The War Of Art' (2012) @stevenpressfield.bsky.social It is affirming (though not always comfortable) that these self-doubts and fears about writing my current book just mean I'm on track! ✍️🌟 I've been here before- 'just gotta go on' (Captain Smollett)

Great to have two very different non-fiction books in progress (with more knocking on the door!) #WritersLife #NonFiction
