Today marks two years since enactment of legislation under Hong Kong’s Article 23. In the past year alone, people have been arrested, charged, even prosecuted for writing graffiti in a toilet, sharing a song on social media and creating an online petition.

In past, UN experts have said China’s policies toward #Uyghurs, #Tibetans & other groups looks more like assimilation. This new law risks further undermining their rights. #China must respect the rights of ethnic communities to maintain their languages, cultures & religions.

📢 On the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, we’re raising concerns re China’s new ‘Ethnic Unity’ law. It aims to forge a single national identity, promoting Mandarin in education & what authorities call “integration” of ethnic groups across society.

Rwanda opposition politician Victoire Ingabire & 9 others have been arbitrarily detained & face subversion charges for legitimate peaceful political activities. Authorities must immediately release all 10 individuals detained solely for the peaceful exercise of their human rights.

Time for the EU to critically engage with the Ugandan authorities on violations And throw their full support behind Uganda's civil society, human rights & LGBTIQ+ defenders, and journalists.
