We earned about $1.25 per hour plus a $6,500 scholarship. For a few bucks, NCCC sent service-minded Americans to support nonprofits and communities from deep blue cities to dark red counties. What a great investment. Friendships, practical skills, and a deeper commitment to serving our county.

This week the Trump/DOGE news hit home for me. I was devastated to learn that AmeriCorps NCCC participants were sent home, ending their year of service early and without warning.
