The cover of Koja’s “The Cipher” which looks very much like a designer threw it together about ten minutes before a deadline by laying their hand on a photocopier, but is nevertheless better than the OTHER cover for this novel, which is irredeemably ugly.

Wtf is being advertised at me right now?

I was perfectly happy with the title of this book…but will admit that it looks at least 20% cooler in French.

I wrote this a while back, but it’s still where I stand.

It's going to sound grandiose, but I think that every word I put down is a significant choice made: some conscious, some bad, some incomprehensible, some deeply embarrassing, but all mine. Removing 30, 50, 100% of that labour by means of automatic generation distances the writer from the art by a corresponding degree, until we’re divorced entirely from the meaning-making purpose of our art.

I am speaking on the level of the sentence, I am speaking on the level of the plot. The choices I make are mine, are of me. The machine only apes the sounds it hears.

I think Solaris was contractually obligated to send me five (5) author copies, but for some reason they felt twenty (20) was a better number. Not complaining! it’s a lovely object!
