But while DEI may be dead, WTF hiring is very much alive. Being Wealthy, Trumpy, and/or Fox News-famous seem to be the only qualifications you need for success in Trump’s USA. See, for example, the entire Trump administration: a horrifying hodgepodge of unqualified sycophants. See also, hot off the press, Melania Trump’s new gig at the United Nations. It’s been announced that the first lady will lead a session of the United Nations security council on Monday titled Children, Technology, and Education in Conflict.

It can’t be stressed enough that this is highly unusual. As the White House noted in a statement: “Mrs Trump’s leadership will mark the first time a sitting US first lady presides over the security council.” Back in precedented times, you see, you generally needed a qualification or two to lead the security council. Now, however, we’re squarely in the WTF economy: Melania is a Trump, ergo automatically qualified to do anything her little heart desires.

Saw Marty Supreme last night, really enjoyed it (more than Uncut Gems). Whole cast is fantastic. Chalamet is excellent. Josh Safdie is a superbly talented filmmaker w a unique style (also interesting choice to use synth/80s sounding music in a 50s period piece. Jarring for me but still worked)

Deputy director of the FBI is usually a veteran agent. Patel had just told the FBI Agents Association it should be an agent. Then Dan Bongino was selected. He’s a loyalist & not an agent. NYT: “The apparent disconnect in selecting Mr. Bongino has intensified mistrust among the rank and file.”

Mr. Trump, making the announcement on his social media site, said the newly installed F.B.I. director, Kash Patel, had named Mr. Bongino to the No. 2 post at the country’s most powerful law enforcement agency. The role of deputy director does not require Senate confirmation, meaning two steadfast Trump loyalists will effectively be at the uppermost reaches of an agency known for its tradition of independence.

The announcement came about an hour after the F.B.I. Agents Association told its members that Mr. Patel had privately acknowledged that the next deputy director should be an F.B.I. agent. The apparent disconnect in selecting Mr. Bongino has intensified mistrust among the rank and file.
