Our little wildflower meadow. Lush, colourful, and drought-resistant. I'll be cutting it throughout August, probably in 3 or 4 stages. In previous years I've cut it later but I learned the hard way that if the weather turns - and doesn't turn back - it's a pain to cut by hand (with a scythe).
This NASA FIRMS map gives an idea of how close the major wildfire has gotten to Bordeaux. A huge swathe of the area west of the city has been burned. The darker areas are the ones that have burned most recently.
It's "bonfire night" here in West Mayo, so we've to close all our fucking windows and doors, during a fucking heatwave, to keep the toxic smoke out of the fucking house. Culture my bollocks. Some people are just burning rubbish.
