Helt ok med karve i bakst! Jeg likte også godt søte karveboller da jeg var barn. I Latvia brukes karve mye – særlig i marinader, rugbrød og annen bakst. Men krydderne jeg liker minst er kanskje spisskummen og koriander.

Yesterday NRK - national broadcaster in Norway had an excellent fossil car propaganda - they took the cheapest price for gas and the most expensive electric car charging option (used by electric car owners just sometimes, or never) and announced that it is 0,6 NOK cheaper to drive a fossil car🤯
Strange to build a snowman on 7th July. But sometimes the nature surprises you in Norway (~1000 m above sea level)
Allerede i går, da NRK Dagsrevyen sendte innslaget, var det kjent at minst 20 mennesker var drept i Kyiv – ikke skadet. Fortsatt i dag har dette ikke blitt rettet på nett-TV. Det riktige er at 20 mennesker er døde, og at mer enn 80 er skadet.
Nice message in a hiker book on one of the tops along a hiking path in Norway- Ukrainians say thanks to Norway for the warm and safe shelter they got here, while russia is destroying their lives and homes in their home country!
Latvian USA artist duo Skuja Braden ceramics exhibition in Kistefos visitors centre toilets has one object respecting the tradition in Norway of 1920s, when people would use newspapers as toilet paper. Wiping with a picture of the king was seen as rude, so instead they would stick it to the wall.
It was a nice surprise to hear Andris Kalnozols, well known writer from Latvia (Kalendārs mani sauc) on a stage in the Lillehammer town Park as one of the Norsk literaturfestival authors! His European stories come next to my reading list (Eiropas smaržas).
I hope #ÅsneSeierstad book “Ufred” will soon be available in English, Latvian... Unfortunately, the book reinforces a sense of hopelessness. The people in Russia do not seek peace; tragically, they continue to send their children to war, the education system produces more war hungry invaders.
So very sad news today in our town, in the whole Norway, in all the biathlon world. Rest in peace Sivert Guttorm Bakken. As your team mates describe you - one of the most hard working and dedicated biathlete in the world! As people in Lillehammer say - extremely kind and nice person! What a loss!

A friend of mine two days ago commented that Geert Wilders looks like Trump (more about his looks). Today I read that also Norwegian national news channel NRK is using the same words - Election setback for “Dutch Trump”! Good job The Netherlands!

I heard that in Riga these days they are trying to count homeless people. And in Norwegian news I read about some “dirty tricks” to make a place under a bridge difficult for a temporary campground.
A good example of why we are still very long away from a gender equality. Women are punished for choices men make: “Athletes who want to compete in the female category for world ranking competitions will have to take a gene test” -they say “you have to prove you’re a women, so we could protect you”

Respect to the female athlete Astrid Øyre Slind who took an action by publicly burning her start number to say that is not OK in 2025 and it’s very bad message to female sports in general!
It is 10 years in a row that Norway has the lowest number of those killed in the road traffic. On average in Europe it’s 44 people killed on one million in year 2024 (in Latvia 59). In Norway it was 16. But still - 16 too many!
How different our world was 100 years ago. Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten in 1917 had a short announcement: “Dear lady, who drove a car on Drammen street and ran over two young girls, on a prayer day evening, please be so kind and respond us!”

This evening the sky was on fire! It is usually just a moment after the sunset when this kind off explosion happens, but so many times we miss it just because we don’t look up enough!
Spent a weekend in Norwegian ski resort Trysil and with irony of today’s reality in the world we joked that Sweden should just claim that part of the land as theirs- it’s Swedish enterprises there, Swedish workers and mostly Swedish tourists and on the map looks more as part of Sweden 😅
