In line with this, we call for all manifesto commitments that would undermine trans people in Scotland's equal treatment to be urgently rescinded, for Labour's leadership in Scotland to commit to protecting the interests of all trans people in Scotland, and for the Labour leaderships in Holyrood and Westminster to commit to work with trans members and LGBT+ groups to repair the trust between the Labour Party and the trans community.

Labour is, and must remain, the party of equality. It was Labour governments which delivered the transformational Gender Recognition Act and Equality Act. In 2024, the Labour Party won a historic majority on a manifesto that pledged to remove indignities for trans people. In Scotland, Labour supported the Gender Recognition Reform (Scotland) Bill through the Scottish Parliament before the Conservatives blocked it in Westminster in 2023. Scottish Labour's 2025 Conference rejected policy motions that would promote anti-trans segregation in education.

Our statement on the Scottish Labour manifesto and its concerning implications for the trans community. With thanks especially from Scottish Young Labour and Scottish Labour Students for standing in solidarity. 🏳️‍⚧️🌹

We are hugely disappointed by the transphobic language and policy points included in Scottish Labour’s manifesto released this week. As representatives of the LGBT+ community, trade unionists, and party members from across the labour movement, we condemn the Scottish Labour leadership's concession to reactionary, trans-exclusionary rhetoric, which stands in contrast to the views of Labour members and votes at Scottish Labour's Conference in 2025. These decisions constitute a severe error of judgment and failure to listen to trans voices within our party.

Joint statement in response to leaked NEC Paper

We unreservedly condemn the content of the leaked paper due to be discussed by Labour’s National Executive Committee tomorrow. The proposals to restrict trans members’ engagement in internal democratic procedures - including by blocking trans women from standing in All Women’s Shortlists, excluding them from National Women’s Conferences, and preventing them standing as Women’s Officers - are not effective ways to “clarify” anything. We would also question whether the exclusion of trans women from Women's Conference is a proportionate means to achieve a legitimate aim, as trans issues have come up time and time again during the conference, this seems to completely remove trans people from that debate. It is a blatant attack on trans rights and is seemingly an attempt to isolate trans people even further within the Labour Party and the labour movement more widely.

Trans people are already greatly underrepresented in British politics, and if passed, this decision by the NEC will further harm trans people’s ability to engage with the democratic process and make them feel unwelcome at a time when the trans community is increasingly under attack.

Equality and positive action is all about increasing diversity, access and fairness in public spaces. There are no trans or gender non-conforming MPs, and our community is underrepresented both in the Labour Party and across devolved and local governments.

We urge all Labour NEC members to vote this paper down and for the Labour Party to adopt meaningful policies to combat transphobia within the party. The Labour Party must set an example and stand on the right side of history.

We remain committed to acting as a voice for trans people within the labour movement and advocating for trans people in the Labour Party and in the UK more widely.

Our statement on the Supreme Court's decision. We will have more to say in due course.

The Supreme Court’s decision is hugely disappointing, and a result of ceaseless lobbying from a well-funded anti-trans network with links to the global far right.

We will continue to fight against all attempts to strip trans people of their rights, and will use all levers within the Labour Party to make trans voices heard.

Labour must not follow the example of Donald Trump, and must instead protect the Equality Act - one of Labour’s proudest pieces of legislation - and its legal protections for trans people.

The Labour Party must stand firmly behind the LGBT+ community.

We stand in absolute solidarity with the trans community across the UK. Our community is strong, and we will get through this.
