Pronouns: She/Her Neurodivergent pākehā author with two thirds of a VFX degree trying to write a werewolf romance and a science fiction duology but getting so so sidetracked by Star Trek fanfiction!
I'm seeing a lot of people saying Rowling's latest offering is confusing and supportive, but it really isn't. She said it for plausible deniability, and built a weasel word into it to escape all avenues of criticism. INTRACTABLE. She might be a shitty author, but she is one, and she knows what...
Got all my decals done on the Constantijn! Stripes, hazard tape, numbers on the torpedo tubes and the boat bay berths, and, most importantly, her name all over her with her pendant number on the forecastle. Just need her running lights and engine plumes and she'll be ready to rig for animation!
The elevator pitch is Battlestar Galactica meets Master and Commander meets The Expanse. I listened to @thesojourn.bsky.social and went "oh wow sci fi with age of sail vibes is great! I wanna see more of that!" Step one to seeing more of that, write more of that! I also do 3d modelling art for it:
On one hand, unfortunately, the people of Clacton have failed to give us "Hon. Count Binface, MP for Clacton." On the other, Binface got 26.9% of the vote, equivalent to almost half of Farage's share (about 42% of it). Farage only won 22,239 compared to 9,455. Which is fucking hysterical.
Bonus: I've got a few maps knocking around! First is my current map of the world the aforementioned fantasy would probably happen in, Nidditerra. Second is my personal reference map of North America in Morgan's universe. North America isn't really relevant to her story, but it's some worldbuilding.
#PretendPanel One is the same as yesterday, I've got a 3d map of my setting's explored space. I also have a personal wiki in Google Drive which I don't use as a website, I just use it as a way of organising stuff. Doesn't work great but I'm too lazy to transfer everything to something better lol
#PretendPanel I don't particularly do moodboards, but I do have stuff like a 3d map of the nearby stars I made in order to give myself an idea of stuff, I do 3d models of the spaceships (ft. Van der Linde class First Rate Ship of the Line), and I use HeroForge to broadly visualise some characters!
"The above is only one of many variations of 'The Company's Days.' It is, in the modern era, a popular political ballad of the Titanian left wing, especially in reference to the still extant Outer Planets Company." I'm somewhat imagining it as the modern rock cover version Francis would encounter.
Making good progress on the Van der Linde class first rate Ship of the Line! Some adjustments to these decals are in order, then it's just more decals and exterior lighting to do! #3dArt #3dModeling #SciFi
My sewing machine, a hand-cranked Singer 28 from 1907. My dining table might also be very old, possibly older than the sewing machine, but I inherited that and don't remember exactly how old my late father said it was.
Thanks! I've started with the Van der Linde class first rate ship of the line, which was perhaps silly because it's barely gonna feature anywhere lol, but I'll get to the Cochineal class sloop, which the hero ship A.S.V. Grasshopper belongs to, eventually! (it'll be an improved remodel of this one)
Sometimes my brain locks in on the stuff I'm supposed to be writing. Y'know, stuff like the chapter planning for my science fiction novel. Sometimes it spits out a new high fantasy character who's a sheepdog named Figgy Duff who got turned into a human by an errant wizard.
Great turnout against the gender definitions bill today in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland! Great to see Oriini Kaipara of Te Pāti Māori and Chlöe Swarbrick of the @greens.org.nz giving speeches, as well as a couple more Green Party members. Now where the feck was Labour? Show some opposition, Opposition!
So this morning I've spent a bit of time gently altering some lyrics to create 'The Union Tars,' a version of the sea shanty 'The British Tars,' as sung instead by sailors of the Acidalian Intersolar Colonial Navy in my WIP 'Ghost of Hades'! #Writing #Worldbuilding #Filk #SeaShanty
In the modern era, the United Nations is a slightly more important entity - not to the degree of #TheExpanse where it's basically the world government, but it does coordinate things like Earth's limited space activity. Hard to do much when you're an orbital enclave in Acidalian space lol. (14/17)
The UK also no longer has a proper monarchy - the position is held by an elected Lord Protector, not unlike a president. It's a bit like Gondor, if there was no expectation for the return of the King. Alas, Wales still isn't independent, but at least it's on the bloody flag now! (13/17)
What about everyone else? Well, I'm no huge geopolitics expert and my carving up the U.S. was motivated more by spite than coherent geography, but I've also done some stuff to the U.K! Ireland has unified, Scotland has gained independence and become an EU member, and the UK is a bit wee. (12/17)
...new players among the now kinda just loose unattached 'Plains States' - in Oklahoma there we've got the Free Nation of Sequoyah, and in South Dakota we've got an independent Lakota nation. Utah has also finally gotten the chance to go full theocracy with the Republic of Deseret. 🤢 (11/17)
The last of the major alliances to form was the Atlantic Federation. The Atlantic Federation was formed after the collapse, rather than during it, and its capital began as Atlanta. However, this was moved to Washington D.C. and the Atlantic Federation adopted the symbolism of the... (7/17)
...the Democratic Union of the Great Lakes. They formed around discussions by the New England and Great Lakes states regarding secession held in New York City which went on to become their capital. Captain Flannigan of the A.S.V. Sojourner is from there, so she's nicknamed the Little Laker. (6/17)
This comes about following WWIII where the United States of America, as well as Russia because I don't want to deal with that, collapse. In the US' case, this began with the secession of California, joined by other States which formed the Commonwealth of California. Next to reform was... (5/17)
As a result of that, officers of the Navy carry swords and it's not unusual for others to carry them either. I picked it in part for the Age of Sail vibes and in part because I've been taking up fencing myself! I've joined an SCA rapier class, we've been doing Capo Ferro so far. Swords! (4/4)
My other inspiration for Ghost of Hades just kinda goes straight in the elevator pitch, because they're more well known. "It's #BattlestarGalactica meets #TheExpanse meets #MasterAndCommander." Battlestar for the space navy, Expanse for the Earth-Mars thing, and Master and Commander for the VIBES.
The idea I dug out of mothballs, 'Ross 248,' was ITSELF inspired by me taking an EVEN EARLIER idea, 'Arcane,' out of mothballs while watching Battlestar Galactica (2003). My 'Arcane' was crap, I wrote it when I was like 14. 'twas inspired by the I.X.S. Enterprise concept. Can still see that a bit!
#LGBTQWriteAThon My WIP is a reboot of an old WIP, inspired by me listening to @thesojourn.bsky.social and thinking "hey, this age of sail vibe is really refreshing and interesting, I wanna see more sci fi like this." Step one of seeing more is writing more, so I dug the old stuff out of mothballs!
#LGBTQWriteAThon I don't have celebrity casts for most of my characters, EXCEPT for the First Lieutenant of the A.S.V. Grasshopper, Lieutenant Aurelius McGann. He's directly based on this screenshot of David Tennant taken from Staged. I was watching a youtube compilation and he jumped out at me.
Me: spends a day and a half making 3d art for my #StarTrek fanfiction Me: cannot share it for a feckin millennia because it's spoilers for something WAYYYYY down the line.
