We've been feeding Tui, Waxeyes, Sparrows and Finches this winter and it's very entertaining watching and interacting with them. I was wondering if anyone else has tried making a "drilled log feeder" (see pic) #birdsnz #aotearoabirds 🪶🇳🇿

Waxeyes slash Silvereyes drinking nectar from a nectar feeding station mounted on a tree. The nectar station is made from an old bamboo chopping board with a red ramekin mounted on top with a repurposed plastic water bottle gravity feeding the sugar water solution into the ramekin.

Just alongside the nectar feeder station is a pink cup and saucer mounted on a bracket on the tree. The pink cup is glued on its side to the saucer and filled with a coconut oil and wild bird seed mix that solidifies. Sparrows and finches stand on the saucer to peck at the seed and fat mix to feed in the cold months. In the picture there is both a Sparrow feeding and a Waxeye slash Silvereye.

Still reading and enjoying The Courting of Bristol Keats by Mary E. Pearson. I'm also listening to the audiobook of After Story by Larissa Behrendt which I highly recommend, the story and characters are very relatable.

Charlie Kirk’s killing was not a political assassination. He was a modern-day Christian martyr. Murdered not for politics, but for his faith, his voice, his bold stand for Jesus Christ.

His death reveals everything that is wrong with our world today.

The Left killed him.
Not with their hands - with their hatred.
Hatred that created the monster who pulled the trigger.

They built a culture so poisonous, so vile, that anyone who dares question their narrative is hunted, demonised, destroyed.

Politicians’ fingers were on the trigger.

Now these very politicians dare to comment on Charlie’s death…when they never stood with him while he lived. Seymour, Winston & co…they don’t truly care about Charlie. They’re just capitalising on what’s viral. They’re charlatans. Protecting their own skins. Afraid they’ll be the next targets. But let’s be clear: they are ALL culpable.

That shooter was a product of the evil climate these politicians across the world have created. And this quickly follows another transgender shooter who gunned down little kids praying in church in America.

The media are no better. If they cannot be respectful in death, they should be silent. Instead, we hear Mike Hosking blaming Charlie’s death on his spreading of “misinformation.” That is vile. That is Anti-Christian bigotry. And it has been seeded and cultivated for years by the media who once claimed to defend free speech.

But this was more than politics. He was murdered. He was martyred…ultimately because he was a Christian. Christianity is under incredible attack in the West. This was a public execution of good vs evil.

A precise sniper was tasked to shoot him because he believed in Jesus Christ.
This man was driven by Christ. He stood for everything good and right. He knew the ultimate truth - we must uphold Christ in our nations.

Free Speech is not man’s idea. It is God’s gift. Without God, you will have it no longer.

And now? The Left are horrifically celebrating his death. That tells you all you need to know about the West. They have torn down everything that once made us strong…faith, family, truth, courage.

Charlie stood against the tide. He warned of Islam’s rise. He exposed the insanity of the gender agenda. He never flinched when others bowed. And above all…he proclaimed his love for Jesus Christ. Does it sound like someone else you know?

Now, Charlie has joined the great cloud of witnesses in Heaven, cheering us on to keep going, keep doing God’s work. He urges us to speak truth, to stand, to make a difference. His death can not be in vain. His race is run. Ours is not.

Young ones…I know you’ll miss Charlie. But, don’t sell yourself short. Your life can make just as much impact as his. The baton is in your hands now.

Charlie’s blood cries out for courage.

So what now? Do we scroll past and shrug?
Or will this finally wake up the sleeping Right to Fight?

As an American immigrant in this country, I find it wild the discourse around Tamaki and his extremist views. He’s actively putting together a march against anyone not whyte or xtian, specifically calling out Indians and Asians and the general talk I hear about him is, “Oh, he’s a fool.”

That’s what everyone thought about trump in 2014 and his cohort of xtian extremists. Do not let his hate grab a foothold while you guys are too busy laughing him off and not taking him seriously.

Edit: A lot of people have point out that the individual person of Brian Tamaki is quite hated in this country. That’s fair. I am clarifying that it is his ideology that is dangerous and should be watched carefully. The amount of pro-RNC influencer conversations I’ve seen from Kiwi’s is alarming and that sort of hate guided as “God’s calling” comes at you really fucking fast.

Friday night’s 1News interview with Fonterra CEO Miles Hurrell was difficult to watch, not just because of what was said, but how it was said.
Mr Hurrell spoke about the soaring price of butter which is now regularly between $8 and $11 per 500g block. He tells us that "80% of the cost is due to the global market." He smiled and shrugged as if this was something we should all accept, even celebrate, because, in his words, it’s a “good news story” for New Zealand.
But let’s be clear global pricing is not the same as the cost of making butter.
Imagine if we, as a small café, priced our scones at $9 and told our loyal customers, “Sorry, that’s what we could charge overseas.” You’d be rightly outraged. So are we.
What people are asking, what cafés, households, and everyday Kiwis are asking is what it actually costs to produce that butter here in New Zealand. Not what Fonterra can get for it on the global stage. That’s not transparency. That’s diversion.
Mr Hurrell also insisted he understands what we’re going through, right before confirming he’s paid just under $6 million a year. With respect, the smirk that accompanied his answers said far more than his words.
We’re told domestic discounts are “unsustainable” for Fonterra. But somehow it’s sustainable for cafés like ours to sell butter-filled baking and food without passing on these massive costs. We don’t charge $9 for a scone because we know our customers couldn’t and shouldn’t have to pay that. But we still need to pay our staff, rent, tax, and suppliers. So who exactly is subsidising whom?
