Yesterday we finished the first season in our rewatch of The Wire. This is peak television. As much as I adore Succession, The Wire did something incredible for TV. Its understanding and depiction of the US and its underlying structures stands alone. On to season two - my favourite.
I can’t quite believe I’m saying this about a Netflix show but Legends is great. The characters feel genuine, the acting and tone are spot-on. The creators knew how to build an atmosphere that is gritty without overwhelming its audience, which is a risk when portraying drug trade/use. #Legends
Getting my cat, Marcel, to the vet because he seems to (once again) have a UTI. No. As the vet so aptly explained: He’s just fat. (She mentioned the word « fat » 4 times and laughed incredulously when she put him on the scale.) #chunk
Gott a wuel och e lëtzebuerger Geriicht. 🤷🏼♀️ De Sport spillt eng grouss Roll beim Krééiere vu Virbiller. Wa mer eppes géint « toxesch Maskulinitéit » maache wëllen, da komm mer weise Jongen, dass gewalttäteg Behuelen net toleréiert gëtt an Täter net och nach eng eenorm Bühn kréien.

Wonnerbar Liesung vum Wolfram Eilenberger am Neimënster. Hien huet dräi groussaarteg Bicher zu 12 PhilosophInnen geschriwwen, dorënner Heidegger, Simone Weil, Adorno, Sontag. Spannend och wéinst de sëllege Parallelen zu eiser Zäit.
Fir e Kolleg ze paraphraséieren: Hei huet wuel ee sech immens getrëppelt gefillt, well en um Weltfraendag net genuch Opmierksamkeet kruut. Nëmme pénibel. www.rtl.lu/news/carte-b...

🧵 🇺🇳 69th Commission on the Status of Women in New York. To me the only way to effectively promote women’s rights globally is through inclusive alliances. Whether trans and inter rights are threatened, whether young women in rural areas have little to no access to sexual and reproductive

#Feminist March on #InternationalWomensDay #Equality is not an empty phrase. It’s not a concept that can be monetised by offering discounts to women once a year. It’s the basis for a society that works for all, not just the few. True equality rests upon social equality, in every sense.
It doesn’t feel appropriate to welcome spring today when the world is and feels as if on fire. Cynicism won’t save us though. So let’s follow bell hooks’ words “Hope is essential to any political struggle for radical change when the overall social climate promotes disillusionment and despair.”
#TheBrutalist - After 3 1/2 hours I immediately would have watched it again from the beginning. It’s a work of art. Haven’t seen anything like it. Feels like the anti-Fountainhead. Go see it at the cinema, VistaVision definitely comes out stunningly.
I didn’t have randomly stumbling on a “feminist” quote by Saddam Hussein in my cards while looking for the author of a quote I only vaguely remember.
View from the Loretta hike path above the Moselle. Loretta was a countess who, in 1328, took Balduin, a belligerent and rival Kurfürst from Trier, prisoner at a high altitude castle, making him look rather helpless and forcing him to stop his threats towards her realm. #WomenInHistory
Castle ruin at the Moselle River in Germany giving heavy Nosferatu vibes tonight.
Waited all day to watch the whole act. What a treat. When DNA started I almost fainted.
What a masterpiece. Easily my favourite contender in the Oscars race. I’ll likely watch it again. In light of current events may as many people as possible see it. Striking how it showcases that power is not a natural force, but often grabbed and most often not by those most deserving.
