So happy that it's finally my turn for a vague post! I can't wait to share more!
#DiversifyMyArt for April! Feel free to make new art inspired by the prompts or incorporate them into art you're already making. Use the tag #diversifymyart and feel free to tag me so I can cheer you on!
Here are the #diversifymyart prompts for March. I was thinking recently how the target age range for picture books matches the age range for when children lose their teeth and yet I hardly see that visible in books. Let's fix that! #kidlitart
@12x12challenge.bsky.social is such a welcoming community devoted to talking about picture books and supporting writers & illustrators. It is where I found my favorite book people and where I learned about the person who became my agent. Join by 2/15! #12x12PB www.12x12challenge.com/membership
#DiversifyMyArt prompt for February! I'm only doing a few prompts each month to keep it low pressure. It helps my ADHD brain not give up from being overwhelmed. Feel free to make new art inspired by the prompts or incorporate them into art you're already making. #kidlitart
My word for the year is “fly” because I’m ready to take off! I made an inspirational graphic to be my iPad wallpaper. #kidlitchat
#artvsartist2025 Proud of the art I made this year even if I didn’t make very much.
The #DiversifyMyArt theme for December is Diversity in Setting!
It's time for all the October art challenges! My challenge for you is to include diversity in the art you're making. Feel free to go out of order or include diversity beyond what's included in this list. Use the hashtag #DiversifyMyArt or #DiversifyMyArt2025 and feel free to tag me!
Some of my rectangle practice, turned into house doodles. #kidlitart
How is it almost September? But that means it's time for one of my favorite themes for #diversifymyart! This month is Style and Bling! Celebrate how we decorate and express ourselves through fashion, jewelry, tattoos, hair, makeup, and more! #kidlitart
I realized I missed sharing the #diversifymyart theme for this month. August's theme is "Bandages and Boo-boos"! #kidlitart
I just got back from a week in the mountains of WV. So peaceful! #kidlitart
The #DiversifyMyArt theme for June is Diversity of Size and Shape! Time to be unique and thoughtful about your characters height, weight, and literal shape! Triangle shaped bodies anyone? #kidlitart
I have a bunch of dice, so it's hard not to roll too many. The dice have symbols/pictures on them that could be story elements. Rory's story cubes are the famous ones, but there are others. #kidlitart
Despite her sparkles, Outside she cannot resist The allure of dirt! #haikusaturday (My daughter bedazzled her bandaid to match her butterfly dress.)
If you want to add #diversifymyart to the art you're making in March, this month's theme is Diversity of Hair! Go out of your comfort zone and spice up the variety of hairstyles you represent in your art. #kidlitart
And here is another piece. This is a portrait of a service dog through the eyes of its owner. Inspired by the accusations that Degas painted blurry pictures because he was losing his vision.
I thought I'd share one of my pieces for #DiversifyMyArt with the theme of increasing representation of vision differences.
I always try to think about how the #diversifymyart prompts can apply to animals. This month is "diversity of skin". We illustrators sometimes default to white versions of animals but why not brown or black or spotted? Are you being intentional about your color choice for your animal characters?
I'm trying something different with #diversifymyart for 2025! Themed months! This month's theme is "Diversity of Skin". In the art you create this month, focus on celebrating what makes skin unique and beautiful! #kidlitart
