Was just in the Chinatown-International District and had a coffee drink at Meiro (665 S King St). Fantastic! Also stopped at the Seattle Art Museum which is always a treat: from ancient to contemporary art; indigenous, international, local. Lots of cool stuff near there, too

There’s a story, possibly apocryphal, about President Jimmy Carter’s flight across the foothills of southwest Washington to view the devastation caused by the eruption of Mount St. Helens. Peering down at the shaven hills, the president expressed horror at the destruction below him. The state officials who were his guides had to gently explain that the helicopter had not reached the volcano blast area yet, that was Carter was seeing was clearcut logging.

Discovered that the @gettymuseum.bsky.social has a delightful online collection of images of daguerreotype plates with no images on them. Got me thinking about spectral responses of emulsions c. 1850 and what images to impose on those plates.... I love to sim old processes!

What appears to be a mid-nineteenth century daguerreotype of Big Ben, nearby buildings, a foreground iron fence, and just maybe something more contemporary in the background.

I like shadows on art museums. Geometric like yours (triangles on triangles!) or less so….

81 years ago today, Hitler killed himself. I love this photo of members of the Dutch resistance at the moment they heard early next morning, likely via the BBC, whose announcement I've integrated here. Gathered around a table with a radio, their elation is palpable. Fascism fell...may it always do.

How to slice low-moisture mozzarella thinly? Cheese plane & mandoline were fails (this cheese grabs those surfaces like a gecko). I've tried a wire slicer—works, but hard to get it nicely and consistently thin. The deli won't slice it. They know something? What's an amateur pizza maker to do?
