Hey there, I’m a painter and illustrator who loves painting cats. This is one I recently finished! My commissions are open for more oil paintings of cats like these. Info is in my bio but you can contact me through my website lastdrawstudio.com Thank you!
Posting old work today because I applied for a job recently and it reminded me of a bunch of my old stuff, so here goes: This painting was done for a solo show in 2013 called PENUMBRA “Goddess of the Hunt” 16x20 oils on canvas (sold) #artsky #painting #oilpainting
Varnish day for this guy. I tried to do one of those trendy varnish videos but my camera washed it out completely. I feel like my iPhone is really struggling to capture these colors accurately
This thing is really good and gets better the longer it sits in the fridge. The hint of lemon with the vanilla and blueberries is such a good flavor combo
I tried a stabilized lemon whipped cream this time (instead of the traditional Cool Whip) … it’s chilling now for a few hours but hopefully it turns out
Letting this dry overnight, anything else I try to paint on this will just bring up the layers underneath. A good start though, the projector saved me so much time
Initial block in on this painting. Starting with an acrylic underpainting in earthtones, establishing some values
“Nero” 8x10 oils on panel Tried to get a better photo, but he’s so shiny it’s nearly impossible. Colors are deeper and more nuanced in person. #oilpainting #petportrait #cats #catart
Last session on this fine fellow. Glazed some shadows back in and sharpened up a few areas. Added the floating cinders. He’s done! Now he dries until it’s varnish and framing time
I propagated a couple tiny Thai basil plants from some grocery store clippings. Started them in water and transferred to soil when they had nice long roots. I hope they survive!
Gotta glaze some shadows back in after this dries, but I think it’s nearly there. Much happier with this whisker attempt!
Still going on this guy. I scrubbed off my previous whisker attempt and had to do some brush surgery to get those teeny tiny directional hairs and whiskers just right
Almost done with this painting! I think today might be the last session but we’ll see. Painting in whiskers and tiny hairs and fixing the name tags and bell
Got a birthday pupcup for Mr. Baba at DutchBros this morning. He’s four years old! Bestest boi
Just tiny details and color adjustments now, and finally the rim light and floating cinders will be added
Glazed some shadows back into this piece this morning, and did a few color corrections on the collar and name tag. Getting there… #artsky #oilpainting #petportrait #catart
Update: this one is extremely hard to photograph, but hopefully you can see some of the tiny fur detailing. Im experimenting with some sgraffito techniques and some scumbling
Having fun with this background. You can see how much more vibrant and luscious the oil paints feel here in vs the acrylic underpainting
This guy is back on the easel, determined to finish him up this week
This is my initial rough sketch after reading about the concept and the design brief. I always like looking back at these after the piece is done
Very happy to share the final cover art I got to create for this project. I painted the artwork and designed the title logo. NEVER ENOUGH by @rodiohead.bsky.social out June 28th!
Here’s a cropped version for a different format (still a work in progress)
A work in progress peek at the magical effects and lighting I’m painting for @rodiohead.bsky.social and her project Never Enough (which launches later this month!)
Baked some chocolate chip cookies tonight and topped them with Maldon salt and did an experiment with potato chips. Potato chip cookies were alright but the texture was kinda off.
This is the clean version of the title lettering after refining it in Affinity Designer
Working on some title lettering design with @rodiohead.bsky.social This is the hand drawn initial version before I refine it and vectorize it
I post this every pride, I love this photo of my dog when we was smol
