I also built a trike out of a Sporty. This one's a lot of fun, it's like riding a big wheel. I'm perfectly capable of riding two wheeled bikes. I have cruisers, sportbikes and even a DS in the garage, but the 3 wheeled bikes offer a change of pace. Enjoy the ride, whatever it is. 😜

I'm also a fabricator and high mileage rider that likes the challenge of learning/doing something new. Seventeen years ago I setup my K75S with a tub. I have 3 different interchangeable platforms. It's a workhorse that gets a lot of comments.

That cylinder head is a big heat sink. You'll be there all day trying to get it hot enough to loosen things up. In cases like this I use a MAP torch. Gets very hot quickly. Also have a set of stripped nut extractors that work well. Good luck.

If you do your own wrenching, it's not only a labor of love, but a way to know your machine better. Taking the bodywork is bad, but replacing a clutch is even worse. 😱

Over 191k miles on my '96 R1100rt and still going strong. I've been in the motor once to replace a headgasket. Great bikes.
