It has been a privilege over the last two days to watch our History, Military History, and History-joint degree students graduate 🎓🗃️ We are so proud of everything they have achieved during their time with us and wish them every success in the future 🥳 📸 Pictured are some very thrilled staff!

Monday’s star find was a slate writing tablet, which possibly dates to the late 1800s when the site was Lincoln Diocesan Training College ✍️ The field school team also includes Giles Emery of Norvic Archaeology, Chloe Birdsall of Allen Archaeology, and Lincolnshire Archaeology Group volunteers 🪏

Monday marked the start of our month-long 2026 Archaeology Field School. The team of Dr Martin Huggon, Dr Ian Hardwick, and Archeology & History BA students have opened two trenches on the Lincoln Bishop campus aiming to explore the Roman, medieval, and Victorian heritage of the area 🪏🌾🪎

Dr. Alan Malpass, Senior Lecturer of Military History at @lincolnbishopuni.bsky.social, spoke to the Grantham Local History Society yesterday evening. His talk at Grantham Museum explored WWII Prisoner of Wars in Lincolnshire – especially at the Allington camp near Grantham 🗃️⛺️

As part of the Lincolnshire Local History Festival, Dr Erik Grigg's Home Guard display is in Boston Library until the end of May. He will be giving a free talk about the Lincolnshire Home Guard at Boston Library on May 29th. Do pop in to see the artefacts display and book your spot at his talk 🪖🗃️

Yesterday we screened the latest instalment in our Cold War Cinema Club, the 1977 revenge thriller "Rolling Thunder." In his fascinating introduction, guest speaker Prof. Tony Taylor situated Rolling Thunder as one of the first films to deal with the individual and collective legacies of Vietnam 📽️🗃️

On 27 March, Dr Erik Grigg – Senior Lecturer in History at @lincolnbishopuni.bsky.social – delivered a talk at the Lincoln Grandstand about Éamon de Valera's 1919 escape from Lincoln Prison. This talk, delivered to a packed audience, was for the Local Landscapes & Hidden Histories project 🗃️

Yesterday we were joined by @drrebeccapinner.bsky.social, who delivered a brilliant paper discussing Waterscapes and Religious Culture in Medieval East Anglia. This event, the latest in our Historical and Archaeological Seminar Series, was attended by a sizeable & engaged audience #Skystorians 🗃️

Yesterday we had the latest instalment in our Cold War Cinema Club – the 1989 road trip comedy "Leningrad Cowboys Go America." Dr Erik Grigg, Senior Lecturer in History, introduced the film in his own distinctive style by dressing as a member of the Leningrad Cowboys band! 📽️🤠

Today we were joined by Prof. Oleh Petrechko from Drohobych Ivan Franko State Pedagogical University, who delivered a paper considering "How Emperors and Communists Erased the Past: The Art of Political Forgetting." This was part of our Historical and Archaeological Seminar Series 🗃️

Last week we held the first screening in our 2026 Cold War Cinema Club for students and staff. @timgalsworthy.bsky.social introduced "Good Night, and Good Luck", detailing the film's depiction of 1950s McCarthyism and television news – as well as its own context of production 📽️🗃️

This Wednesday we have the next talk in our Historical and Archaeological Seminar Series, held in collaboration with Drohobych State Pedagogical University, Ukraine. Steve Nunn will be discussing the impact and legacy of WW2 airfields on the Norfolk landscape. See the poster for full details 🗃️

On Monday, Dr Alan Malpass (Senior Lecturer of Military History at Lincoln Bishop) spoke to Caistor & District Local History Society about Axis Prisoners of War in Lincolnshire. His talk sparked fascinating discussions about the camp’s wartime role and its later life as an agricultural hostel 🗃️

Our first year students studying the Late Medieval period enjoyed a trip to Lincoln Cathedral today. They learnt about the history of the cathedral and discovered some interesting medieval graffiti & carvings ⛪️ This trip typifies our applied humanities teaching at @lincolnbishopuni.bsky.social 🗃️

Today, 1st year students on our "Libraries, Museums and Archives" module visited Lincoln Cathedral Library. Yesterday, students on our 2nd year "British Protest Movements" module tried their hand at designing and making political banners. As part of their studies of Chartism, students used slogans and symbolism common in early 19th century banners. Innovative teaching enjoyed by all! 🎨🗃️
