Wednesday, August 12, 2026. The long-delayed Kennedy Center Board of Trustees meeting is tomorrow. Rumor has it that it will be a virtual meeting, beginning at 10:30 AM. In the past, Board meetings were held in person at the Kennedy Center. There was a sense of occasion. No more.
Tuesday, August 11, 2026. Two more days until the postponed Board meeting. I believe the National Symphony Orchestra is in the building rehearsing with Maestro Noseda for the weekend concerts at Wolf Trap.
Haiku . 'Ignore the "Spite Tarp"! Where's the NSO budget?' (The haiku version) . Today was too hot To protest on the Plaza This will substitute.
Attention residents of Virginia and Maryland: Sen. Van Hollen of MD and Sen. Warner of VA are members of the Kennedy Center Board of Trustees. Please tell them to attend the August 13 meeting, vote for phased repairs to keep the building open, and approve the NSO budget.
Friday, August 7, 2026. The Kennedy Center Board of Trustees meeting is scheduled for next week.
Wednesday, August 5, 2026. The volunteer-led Kennedy Center tours resumed today. I went on one and highly recommend others to do the same.
Tuesday, August 4, 2026. It's mighty lonely on the Kennedy Center Plaza, apart from Security guarding the "spite tarp" as if it's the Hope Diamond. I will be back tomorrow to make sure the free public tours resume, as announced on the Kennedy Center website. Anyone want to join me and take a tour?
Friday, July 31. Today was a court-imposed deadline for a status report about the building operation, renovation schedule, and the presence of the tarp and scaffolding. But despite having almost six weeks lead time, the Board did not meet during the month of July, and the judge gave an extension.
Tuesday, July 28th. I sense a little bit of momentum here on the Plaza. Perhaps the recent New York Times article has put some heart into the tourists, local residents, and staff? More drive-bys than yesterday. Also a lot of helicopters, or maybe just one persistent one. It's blue.
Thursday, July 23, 2026, at the Kennedy Center. The debut of the new sign, as we count down to July 31st, when Judge Cooper is expecting a status report.
The next important date in the Kennedy Center case. But the Board of Trustees apparently is not meeting this month, so are they planning to blow off the court deadline or did management lie to the staff?
Saturday, July 18, 2026. Extra guards are protecting the tarp, as if it were the Hope Diamond, today
Friday, July 10, 2026. Getting in some solo protest time on the Kennedy Center Plaza before the Hands Off the Arts protest starts at 6:30 at the bottom of the steps across from the café at the Watergate.
Mark your calendars for Friday, July 17th at the Kennedy Center (where six gorgeous theaters are going dark for the foreseeable future, because of its incompetent Trump-appointed management).
Tuesday, June 30th. It's actually granite, not marble, on which I am roasting. I apologize for yesterday's error.
Thursday, June 25th. Still no NSO budget? Kennedy Center Board, you should be ashamed.
Wednesday, June 24. The ridiculous tarp is still up at the Kennedy Center, and as far as I know, the NSO is still in limbo because the Kennedy Center Board has not done even the barest minimum of its job and approved its budget for next season, which should have happened months ago.
Wednesday 6/17/2026 at the Kennedy Center. When passers-by want to take my picture with the cardboard protest sign, I always suggest that they hold the sign and let me use their device to take their picture instead. COVER-UP was by far the most popular for that. I'm deputizing the public.
