A Labour vision for clean air – backed by public health messaging – can be focused on making tangible improvements to people’s communities through the Pride in Place agenda, with things like better transport connectivity, warmer homes, safer roads, thriving high streets and more green spaces.

The research shows that support for action on air pollution is strong – particularly with Labour and progressive voters – with Labour already having many of the policies and messaging it needs to deliver a robust vision on clean air.

While there's a currently a lack of a clear political narrative on clean air at national level, that leaves councillors and mayors taking bold action without adequate political support, the research shows a way forward that could carry political benefits for Labour.
