It's that time again. Bought a pack of safety pins, and I'm putting one on each shirt and coat. And I will back it up; this is not a meaningless gesture.

Happy Solstice! Or Saturnalia , or Yule, or Sol Invictus, or ... I observe this as a scientist: there's something happening that I and everyone else can see and agree on. My observation is not as dry as some might imagine; I do feel inspiration and joy that the days are lengthening from here.
