We own a Defender 90. It’s actually shorter than a Toyota Corolla. My wife is a pro-wildlife artist and uses it to access wild areas via tracks, usually in the middle of winter. So it’s not about ego, it’s a genuine utility vehicle for her work. But yes, some people who have them don’t need them.
If only there had been a 7-seat version of the Volvo available at the time… 🧐
The highlight of this photo is the fat terrier wit’ balls resting on t’pavement
If you like old stonework you would love Britain. This is the Ribblehead Viaduct - 24 stone arches, 440 yards long, 104ft high. Built in 1870. Still in use today.
I had one of these, mine was the reverse colour-way - black with the red accent. It was absolutely brilliant fun to drive. You soon got used to the prodigious amounts of torque steer.
There were schools without idiots? We even had idiots that were teachers - they’d throw chalk and even blackboard rubbers at you. My PE teacher completely ignored me when I was knocked out in a football game. When I finally came round he just sent me back to the changing room - on my own!
Another absolute monster 12” 45 out of Jamaica. Brilliant music on both sides, and the best label and sleeve art. And yes, I want all the tunes mentioned on the sleeve please - or at least the ones I don’t already have 😎 #reggae #music #vinyl #weekendsingles #Jamaica
Huge roots tune by The Roots, excellent Black Ark business from Lee Perry. ‘Mash Down’. #reggae #music #vinyl #weekendsingles #Jamaica
Right now I’m in one of my favourite places - at the decks spinning reggae vinyl. Earlier today, and for most of the last three weeks, I’ve been up on the roof of our new little Scottish home fixing up the roof. Almost done with the ‘above the eaves’ work 🎉🥳🙌🍻
Step up Mr Sugar Minott with two feet of pure sweetness. Both sides of this 12 on the Up Tempo label are big winners. Proper drum and bass versions of both tracks too. I love the 12 inch 45 vinyl format, it’s the perfect media for reggae music. #reggae #music #vinyl #weekendsingles #Jamaica
Saturday Night Jamboree by Wayne Jarrett - big tune on the Dub Irator label. That label art though 👀🇯🇲😍 #reggae #music #vinyl #weekendsingles #Jamaica
Yet another Jamaican singer with a super voice. David Isaacs. And a great 12 inch it is. Not a 45 though as it plays at 33.3 for some reason. #reggae #music #vinyl #weekendsingles #Jamaica
Twelve inches of greatness from Dennis Emmanuel Brown #reggae #music #vinyl #weekendsingles #Jamaica
Time for a session on the decks with some 12” ‘disco’ 45s. Digging some gold here… (More info in the ALT text) #weekendsingles #reggae #music #vinyl
Diamond Dogs by David Bowie. I got this LP from my parents for my 14th birthday. About a year earlier they decided to get rid of the TV and replaced it with a great hi-fi. That decision had a profound and lasting influence on myself and my two brothers.
My ‘disco’ rig is like this - but with an additional monitor controller for easy control of the master volume, and it allows me to quickly switch to an alternative set of speakers. I use ‘booth out’ on the mixer to feed and control a subwoofer.
I forgot to be your lover version excursion #weekendsingles #vinyl #reggae #music
Saturday night is singles night 🎶🇯🇲 #reggae #music #vinyl #weekendsingles
Lovely. Here’s a photo of another old schoolhouse - this one happens to be where I live. It looks a lot like the one in your painting 😉
I really enjoy seeing photos like this that show the equipment the DJs were using. Fascinating glimpses. Like the cover photo on Mickey Dread’s brilliant ‘Dubwise’ LP that shows him in the JBC radio station with a pair of EMC decks - expensive TTs even back then and VERY sought after today.
