Day 2 of the desert started out not in Death Valley, but in lil Beatty, NV, where we stopped for gas, lunch, the ghost town of Rhyolite and an abandoned mine for rock hunting. Wild donkeys were wary of our presence, and I got to do some proper offroad driving for the first time in over a decade.

In Beatty, NV, a company has spent the past several years slowly building this *insane* steampunk casino. It's not open yet, but people were inside, actively working on it. A metal octupus wraps its way around the front of the building, stealing the 'E' from the sign, while metal airship sculptures and dozens of gears decorate the outside.

First day we were hitting the Arizona Hot Springs trail! We didn't go all the way to the springs (it was a couple miles and with some pretty brutally steep portions, and we wanted to stay fresh for Death Valley the next day) but it was *gorgeous.* I scrambled up a mountain~!

Going to be sharing a lot of pictures, but I have spent the past week out in the desert. Death Valley is in superbloom. The salt flats are a mirror of inch-deep water. The dunes were soft, the stars were beautiful. My soul is recharged. In this moment of real fear and strife... I needed this.

I'm packing my stuff for @eufuria.org and I realized I hadn't actually posted the INTENSE BRAINROT that is my #lancer pilot, Shelby Beckett. Shelby is a veteran in her 80s, a lady with a southern affectation and a heart of gold. @kindreddemon.bsky.social has ratcheted my brainrot to the MAX too

The full crew of the lancer campaign, titled Grey's Strays. Shelby (she/her), a fox, is on the bottom, grinning with a huge snaggletooth. Clockwise from her is 417 (it/they), a hulking wolverine with *lots* of issues she is eager to help them through. Next is Aurele (she/her), a mysterious jackal who's absorbed paracasual crazyness. After that at 2 o'clock is deVries(she/her), a hyena with a scarred face and mostly prosthetic body (and a dead wife oh no). Finally is Magz(they/them/she), a little gecko who controls a swarming hive of vicious and powerful nanobots.

Shelby embraces 417, reunited after over a decade. 417 much hunch down into her shoulder, and it has a look of relaxed relief to be holding her again.

Shelby turns the tables and proves she is deceptively strong, knowing how to apply leverage as she squeezes the breath from 417, grinning madly and burying her face into its chest.
