Living on a hill that overlooks NY Harbor and the Statue of Liberty. Hoping that Liberty remains something more than just a statue in a harbor. 311.8 ppm
Well, the air currents have shifted a bit, pushing the smoke off to our south, so we can breathe here in NYC for the moment. AQI is a lovely moderate 78 right now.
From the department of "Well, Duh!" WaPo interviewed experts, and the peeling paint in the Reflection Pool is caused by.... APPLICATION MISTAKES!
Air here in Brooklyn is a little crunchy. Can barely see across the harbor for all the smoke. N95 is the word of the day.
Pete isn't worried about gender-affirming. He's trying to make super-soldiers. He's going to kill troops.
One of the effects of low-T is nervousness. So, Pete's going to make soldiers more centered and calm? Neat. However, HIGH T levels are a whole different set of problems: (Pete seems to suffer from that last one.)
How churlish am I to wonder if Lindsey Graham died in the middle of some non-vanilla sex thing? "Sudden, brief illness?" Okay, which one? The "explosive diarrhea" theory is cute but unlikely. It's eminently treatable, with fluids, electrolytes, and antibiotics. Worst case, IV saline in the ER.
Would be helpful to know what the index is measuring. Some sort of progress, a reduction in greenhouse gas production, year-to-year? Because if you're measuring which country is ALREADY most of the way there, you'd be remiss to leave out Iceland.
Seriously?? To oppose Collins?!? Any flea-infested yellow dog will do.
Yeah, not a big deal. Parents staying up all night putting icebags on their child's head to prevent brain damage from high fevers. Doctors making house calls at all hours. Heart damage, sterility, paralysis. From "childhood diseases." I started elementary school in the 1950s, with polio survivors.
Apropos of nothing, I find it curious that the fact that probably half of all trans folk are transMEN never enters these bigot/phobes' conversations.
Conservative commentator, Mona Charen, writing in The Bulwark newsletter. I don't understand how she sees a "socialist shambles" in the Progressives' quest for the same social supports that make the Scandinavian countries livable, affluent, contented and their capitalist companies so successful.
Thanks to Swamp Thing for posting uncropped cartoon! Credit to Studio Hajo.
Is that Barron as Lurch? (Cartoon posted by Meidas Ian. No credit given to cartoonist. Anyone know who made this?)
And none of them are applicable to government social policies. However, when governments start taking ownership of private companies... Oh, wait.
I'm obligated to post the original cartoon, which was fine as it was.
Depends entirely what they do after that. If they install a bipartisan transitional civilian government to bridge to new elections, we might be back in business. I'd suggest a "junta" of the 8 living former Presidents and VPs, from Quayle to Harris.
Yes, and that "overnight low" won't be reached until just before sunrise. And then it's up again. Still, should be a few degrees cooler tomorrow, and after that, the heatwave breaks and we can stop burning out ConEd's overloaded distribution network for a while.
South Carolina, how about electing a REAL woman to the Senate? Haven't you had QUITE enough of GrahamMa Lindsey?
Question: Given our First Amendment, that Congress SHALL MAKE NO LAW ABRIDGING... the right to peacefully assemble and petition the government for redress of grievances, how can there be a place on government property where protest is prohibited?
Zohran Mamdani could be the second coming of Mayor Fiorello La Guardia! They have a lot in common.
Can we puhleeeazze stop calling social programs and laws that benefit citizens "socialism?" It's just governance. You know, like it says in our founding documents!
The nazification of the White House continues. I mean, it's not exactly the same eagle, and the swastika is silent, but still...
Tomorrow, SCOTUS is expected to hand down a decision on "birthright citizenship." I'm not a lawyer, just a lowly (retired) IT mook who can use logic. Ignoring the 14th Am, this is the law that they're trying to twist. But if not subject to US jurisdiction, aren't they IMMUNE to ALL of our laws?
