One of the effects of low-T is nervousness. So, Pete's going to make soldiers more centered and calm? Neat. However, HIGH T levels are a whole different set of problems: (Pete seems to suffer from that last one.)

Problems associated with artificially high testosterone levels in men include:

low sperm counts, shrinking of the testicles and impotence (seems odd, doesn't it?)
heart muscle damage and increased risk of heart attack
prostate enlargement with difficulty urinating
liver disease
acne
fluid retention with swelling of the legs and feet
weight gain, perhaps related in part to increased appetite
high blood pressure and cholesterol
insomnia
headaches
increased muscle mass
increased risk of blood clots
stunted growth in adolescents
uncharacteristically aggressive behavior (although not well studied or clearly proven)
mood swings, euphoria, irritability, impaired judgment, delusions.

How churlish am I to wonder if Lindsey Graham died in the middle of some non-vanilla sex thing? "Sudden, brief illness?" Okay, which one? The "explosive diarrhea" theory is cute but unlikely. It's eminently treatable, with fluids, electrolytes, and antibiotics. Worst case, IV saline in the ER.

Would be helpful to know what the index is measuring. Some sort of progress, a reduction in greenhouse gas production, year-to-year? Because if you're measuring which country is ALREADY most of the way there, you'd be remiss to leave out Iceland.

Yeah, not a big deal. Parents staying up all night putting icebags on their child's head to prevent brain damage from high fevers. Doctors making house calls at all hours. Heart damage, sterility, paralysis. From "childhood diseases." I started elementary school in the 1950s, with polio survivors.

Apropos of nothing, I find it curious that the fact that probably half of all trans folk are transMEN never enters these bigot/phobes' conversations.

Conservative commentator, Mona Charen, writing in The Bulwark newsletter. I don't understand how she sees a "socialist shambles" in the Progressives' quest for the same social supports that make the Scandinavian countries livable, affluent, contented and their capitalist companies so successful.

NOW THAT WE’VE COMPLETED our celebration of America’s 250th birthday it’s time to prepare for the 300th—the tricentennial. I will not live to see it but I hope the nation will.

At least, I hope a certain kind of America will celebrate its 300th year—one that has regained its moral equilibrium and turned its back resoundingly on illiberalism in all its ugly forms. If the United States does not reverse its current retreat from the principles and traditions that ennobled it, if it becomes the kind of predatory, grubby, and aggressive nation that Donald Trump champions, or if it becomes the socialist shambles that a growing number on the left envision, then it will not deserve to celebrate a tricentennial.

How do we find our footing in the face of these challenges to liberalism? Well, the Supreme Court just helped us. Though the Court has done its share to deform our constitutional structure recently, it also gave us a gift for the 250th anniversary of the Declaration. That gift was the birthright citizenship case, Trump v. Barbara. Yes, it would have been more bracing if the Court’s decision had been 9–0. But on the key concepts, the majority affirmed a principle that is foundational to our republic: equality. And by affirming that citizenship belongs to (nearly) every child born on American soil, the Court also tipped the scales on another argument currently roiling our republic, namely whether we are a creedal nation or one of blood and soil.

Zohran Mamdani could be the second coming of Mayor Fiorello La Guardia! They have a lot in common.

Fiorello Henry La Guardia (December 11, 1882 – September 20, 1947) was an American attorney and politician who served as the 100th mayor of New York City from 1934 to 1946. He previously represented New York in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1917 to 1919 and again from 1923 to 1933. He was known for his irascible, energetic, and charismatic personality and diminutive, rotund stature. A member of the Republican Party, La Guardia was frequently cross-endorsed by parties other than his own, especially parties on the left under New York's electoral fusion laws. A panel of 69 scholars in 1993 ranked him as the best big city mayor in American history.

Before his mayoralty, La Guardia represented Manhattan in the U.S. House of Representatives and later served in the New York City Board of Aldermen. Amidst the Great Depression, La Guardia campaigned on his support for Franklin D. Roosevelt and his New Deal programs and won the 1933 election. As mayor during the Great Depression and World War II, La Guardia unified the city's transit system; expanded construction of public housing, playgrounds, parks, and airports; reorganized the New York Police Department; and implemented federal New Deal programs within the city. He pursued a long series of political reforms, curbing the power of the powerful Irish-controlled Tammany Hall political machine that controlled the Democratic Party in Manhattan, replacing its influence with merit-based employment and promotion in bureaucracy.

La Guardia was a highly visible national political figure. His support for the New Deal and relationship with President Roosevelt crossed party lines, brought federal funds to New York City, and cut off patronage to La Guardia's Tammany enemies. La Guardia's WNYC radio program "Talk to the People", which aired from December 1941 until December 1945, expanded his public influence beyond the borders of the city.

Tomorrow, SCOTUS is expected to hand down a decision on "birthright citizenship." I'm not a lawyer, just a lowly (retired) IT mook who can use logic. Ignoring the 14th Am, this is the law that they're trying to twist. But if not subject to US jurisdiction, aren't they IMMUNE to ALL of our laws?
