I know it is an unpopular choice, but I have an affinity for the Gabby solo shorts that the Fleischer Studios released after Gulliver’s Travels. This is probably because Gabby was on so many VHS cartoon collections.

To celebrate Dick Van Dyke’s 100th birthday, I’m watching one of his lesser known Disney films, Lt. Robin Crusoe USN (1966). A childhood favorite, I remember seeking out the DVD release in 2005. I’m glad I did because this movie is not on Disney+. It’s a long and somewhat slow film, but still fun.

While putting up our Christmas tree today I was sure to include this ornament from featuring Junius Brutus Booth. The celebrated tragedian and patriarch of the Booth family died aboard a steamboat #OTD in 1852. The 56-year-old’s last words were “Pray, pray, pray.” 🗃️

That’s a neat piece but, sadly, not an original playbill. After the assassination, there were printers who made and sold fraudulent playbills. This is an example of one made by L. Brown. Compare the details to a real playbill printed by H. Polkinhorn (the printer used by Ford’s Theatre).
