Opened Instagram and saw this. The algorithm knows my struggles. Both the job market and the rental market are shit this year. Probably the only way for us jobless people to survive is to live with the parents.
I was scared to see raw chicken hearts, but after a friend cooked them for me, yum yum!
Over the past few days I've seen lots of chatter about the recent research funding cuts in the UK. It seems that it affects UK chemists in my field a lot. Also, it seems that my field is dying in every country these years because of the funding cuts. What a time I'm living in!☹️
Lol, browsing job ads and seeing a 'permanent postdoc' position in the chemical industry
Today's picket had great vibes, but as this placard points out, there probably won't be enough money for science if that stupid four-year-old war continues...
Browsed job boards today and saw an academic job in a European country that requires the applicants to have at least 10 years of postdoctoral experience but still have no stable job... This says enough about today's academia. #AcademicSky
LMAO. Why does Instagram show me this ad. Probably because some friends suggested that I do another PhD if I still can't find a job. Instagram is clearly eavesdropping. And I don't believe there are short PhD programmes in 2026. It feels like a scam.
Opened twitter and saw this. I'm not surprised. It is that bad already. I think this is future me. I've already applied for a few jobs that don't require a degree. I have no choice.
I still don't understand why the Hellma cuvette costs more than €600. It's just a transparent little container made of quartz! Does anyone understand this? #ChemSky
Opened Instagram and saw this. Maybe I should try to do more small talk.
A swarm of ants by the river. Some have wings, some not. Not sure what they're up to.
Google maps gave me some trouble, but I managed to get to this place. It was a tiring trip but the castle is worth it.
Just another piece of modern art that I don't understand (these are not fridges & they can't be opened & the cans inside are not drinks)
Lol, my colleague put this up on the wall to make fun of the US govt. However, I don't think we can make fun of them when we are also struggling with the lack of funding here.
Applying for a job in a Spanish-speaking country. Their system requires me to have two surnames 🤦♀️ #jobhunting
This weekend many people in my city are celebrating Nowruz and selling Persian food, so I also got a Persian takeaway. Yummy 😋
Browsing job boards, I see an ad like this for a job in my field in a big city in Poland. PLN 7250 is 1697 euros. And this is the gross salary. I wonder which scientist would apply for such a job. This salary is just humiliating, not to mention the recruiting process having two interviews.
Our local KFC has made some pink wraps recently, but it doesn't taste anything special
I've just learned that a flint like this can even strike a spark when wet
