Today I finished the Tevis Cup Virtual Ride -- 100 miles in under 100 days, all in support of the Western States Trail Foundation, www.americantrails.org/organization.... I'm pretty pleased with myself. I hiked 92 miles, with 8 miles in 2 rides with Coastside Rides at Ember Ridge, in 79 days.
I spent a ridiculous amount of money to acquire “The Tall Book of Make Believe” edited by Jane Werner and illustrated by Garth Williams. I loved it in childhood and read it to my daughter. Now I can read favorites to her children. I don’t think I have a favorite story or poem. It’s the whole thing.
I have done that an embarrassing number of times. I thought I was ordering a pound of crushed peppermint candy canes., to make ice cream. 15 pounds is what arrived. Well, I quadrupled the amount of crushed candy I add to each batch and it is an improvement, but it’s still a 2 year supply.

Took this picture yesterday in a local small park that’s only a hiking venue because it’s all too steep to build on. But the city of San Carlos does a great job with these pocket parks, a few dozen acres.

I woke up today thinking it was Monday, so did a quick march around the block—exactly 1km door to door. Kept stopping to record what’s blooming and to stretch my crampy calves. So a 2mph pace. Still slower than last year. Attn @lollardfish.bsky.social who is looking to raise the tone around here.
I hiked two miles and 325 feet elevation change today. I saw these stands of brixia maximus, California rattlesnake grass, in some clear afternoon light, and really saw them.
I have NotMyCat, a duplicate of my cart Lulu, in my house fairly often. Lulu is not pleased.
California's upcoming election. My Voter Guide just came in the mail. The primary has 62 candidates listed for Governor.
Very disorienting. I walked into my bedroom and my black cat, Lulu, hissed at me and bottle-brushed her tail, then split onto the patio. I followed her out…and found the real Lulu, sitting placidly watching the intruder!
Here are my grandchildren who live in the UAE. I’m just loving not being able to get to them & anticipating what could rain down. And I’m thinking of the working class folks in the UAE, who will suffer even more if things go to hell.
It is 87 degrees f here in San Mateo County. The predicted high for Dubai is 85 degrees. My cat has melted.
William Andrew Ogles IV represents the good citizens of Tennessee’s 5th district, which likely has more than a few Muslims. I wonder what his Muslim constituents think of his pronouncement that “Muslims don’t belong in American society”. He should be censured.

The Czech street / fair dish, lángos! Mine had garlic, bacon, shredded cheese, a scattering of rocket (arugula) on a base of sour cream. Delicious! (The bacon bits were kind of like pebbles, though).
T is not an athlete or outdoorsman or somebody who has ever worked with tools — the kinds of activities where you might end up with minor wounds. Blood only at the top of his ear, not pouring down to fill the bottom or the ear canal. Two little blood trails. his collar is still completely white.
