How's the Halloween product development going? Yeah, good. We're ready to go to production Amazing! Tell me about the concept Well, people love ghosts Absolutely And dogs Loving it so far, go on. So we thought, what if a ghost took their dog trick or treating ...sure. Yeah, that can make sense (1/2)
Back to work on Monday after EIGHT WEEKS of sick leave. All being well I'll be off to Poland for the ESA conference a week on Tuesday to present this! From our massive @createconnectccr.bsky.social project which is an absolute privilege to work on
Stop by the school office on my way in; "you've got a parcel for me, I think?" "Yeah, it should have your name on" ".....oh... yeah"
Genuinely pleased to see this at the end of a Routledge review document. Hope that is reflected right across their publishing process (copy editing?)
New project moving from my head to note taking phase. Exciting! #criptime #bipolartime
Here's another week from a different module: Orlando, A Room of One's Own, two chapters of Women and Writing, two critical articles. You can do SO MUCH in an hour seminar when your cohort is doing this much prep. I am sad I don't get to do this kind of informed discussion with students
Attempting to clear my office before packing (moving from it for renovation) and got stuck on reading list from my MA. Can you imagine expecting students to read a play and a novel in one week (plus we all did extra from recommended) on a single module, now?
Ha. Look at that, a clear record of where it all went wrong (the book I read during my MA that made me both excited and furious and motivated me to try and write a PhD to disprove him)
While we develop a sharp focus on doing more work with fewer staff, we can also admire this new money pit (also it looks like they will be stripping the copper roof off the existing building which is a horrible way to hack up a Sir Basil Spence building)
Does anyone know where you can buy Gulliver bars in the UK? My Russian neighbours gave me a bag of sweets, had one of these in and unlocked an ancient childhood memory of having them at my Grandma's house (because her live-in boyfriend/partner was Ukranian)
Small professional nods give me a little boost on a cold Tuesday when I'm ill. I rarely think about that article from 2017, so it's nice to be reminded of it. Some interesting stuff (and some familiar pieces) flagged in this systematic review www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....
Some people will tell you sociologists and criminologists are broadly the same. I submit to you these images, one hangs in my office, the other next door in my colleague @ashkingdon.bsky.social's office. Match the flag to the person in the comments!
One of best things about collabs with people outside academia is they remind you how ridiculous time is inside academia
Here we are then, the article I have been whining about for well over a year. Written with @robinskyer.bsky.social, our article explores failure and crip temporalities in UKHE and is published today with the Sociological Review doi-org.soton.idm.oclc.org/10.1177/0038... #bipolar #Sociology
Teaching 1st years Foucualt today. My seminar slides have this on which remains one of my favourite stupid memes and I anticipate is entirely lost on students. Making myself laugh is 90% of the challenge though, right?
Nothing can convince me there aren't crates of retired Profs stacked up behind this door.
The TONE from my GP surgery. If I don't "comply" (first time they've asked) they will deny me medication which prevents me becoming seriously ill and sudden cessation from which can cause serious illness. I'm unaware of side effects that would cause me to change height
It's nice when photos you didn't know existed turn up AND you don't hate how you look in them. A happy little snap from Pride in Southampton, from last month with @uosengagement.bsky.social
Is Grandparents day "difficult for some people" or is it a non existent event which they are somehow rinsing coming and going with this email?
I wasn't really on board with the whole "flags on lamposts" thing. But seeing this filthy mattress, as the shining shit on top of a heap of rubbish, with the red cross daubed on it like blood, really turned my head.
An exhausting but elating day at #SoProud #SouthamptonPride collecting a huge cloud of names that make up the web of kin that have made our community who we are. It's so special to talk to people about the people in their lives and imaginations and celebrate all the diverse influences.
Nothing can convince me the text on the new Warwick site was written by humans. This sort of bananas word invention and tautology is pure AI
Nope, I still have it? When you (single) click on the clock, does it give you something like this?
Genuinely enjoyed this at the end of a long email outlining some beautifully crafted event plans.
If there's one thing the new forest isn't short on, it's hunting lodges turned into country house hotels
