Here's another week from a different module: Orlando, A Room of One's Own, two chapters of Women and Writing, two critical articles. You can do SO MUCH in an hour seminar when your cohort is doing this much prep. I am sad I don't get to do this kind of informed discussion with students

Attempting to clear my office before packing (moving from it for renovation) and got stuck on reading list from my MA. Can you imagine expecting students to read a play and a novel in one week (plus we all did extra from recommended) on a single module, now?

A typed page for English MA: Sexuality Fiction and Subculture. There is a brief intro blurb, details on seminars and assessment, and two weeks of core readings. In week 1 this is parts 1-3 of History of Sexuality, and two chapters from two other texts. Week 2 specifies all of The Well of Loneliness and Angles in America 1

While we develop a sharp focus on doing more work with fewer staff, we can also admire this new money pit (also it looks like they will be stripping the copper roof off the existing building which is a horrible way to hack up a Sir Basil Spence building)

Small professional nods give me a little boost on a cold Tuesday when I'm ill. I rarely think about that article from 2017, so it's nice to be reminded of it. Some interesting stuff (and some familiar pieces) flagged in this systematic review www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

One of best things about collabs with people outside academia is they remind you how ridiculous time is inside academia

Bipolar time is a metaphor for the complexities of times as we variously experience them, and as it intersects with other times and demands. It provides a way to index the components of time, of illness, of accelerating contexts, which construct the experience of failure. Bipolar time describes the non-rhythmic space where failure is everywhere and nowhere, personal-affective, contextual and structural. It is not just a metaphor for personal struggle; we offer it as a critical tool to analyse how times move – and how (or whether) we move against/with time – in ways which reinforce inequalities. Bipolar time offers a mechanism to explore how failure is attached to certain bodies and why ‘reasonable adjustments’ or accommodations for disability do not preclude the painful affective experience of delivering work on time, slowly, or not at all

Teaching 1st years Foucualt today. My seminar slides have this on which remains one of my favourite stupid memes and I anticipate is entirely lost on students. Making myself laugh is 90% of the challenge though, right?

The TONE from my GP surgery. If I don't "comply" (first time they've asked) they will deny me medication which prevents me becoming seriously ill and sudden cessation from which can cause serious illness. I'm unaware of side effects that would cause me to change height

Text reads: You are due a height, weight & BP check.

This is monitoring that needs to be carried out in relation to your medication. If you do not comply with this monitoring it could prevent you receiving your medication.

I wasn't really on board with the whole "flags on lamposts" thing. But seeing this filthy mattress, as the shining shit on top of a heap of rubbish, with the red cross daubed on it like blood, really turned my head.
