Now spinning: "Black Ice" by AC/DC (2008) We saw the band on the epic Black Ice tour. We had no idea how bad Malcolm's dementia already was, and just how hard he worked every single day to re-learn the songs he co-wrote, in order to not disappoint the fans.

Now spinning: "Freedom" by Neil Young (1989) The album kicks off with "Rockin' in the Free World", and it has never seemed more apposite.

Now spinning: "24 Carrots" by Al Stewart (1980) One of my favourite singer/songwriters and an amazing wordsmith. His "Year of the Cat" is one of my favourite albums of all time. I picked this up at Wellington Market over the weekend for free, when I spent £20 on AC/DC!

Now spinning: "Don't Play That Song!" by Ben E King (2022) A compilation of the greatest songs by the soul/R&B legend. The song "Stand By Me" is one of two I want played at my funeral.

Now spinning: "Hardware" by Billy F Gibbons (2021). The third solo album from the ZZ Top guitarist was released in June '21 to generally favourable reviews. The track "Stackin' Bones" features vocals by the amazing Larkin Poe (Lovell sisters).

Now spinning: "Back in Black" by AC/DC (1980). *The* prime example of "all killer, no filler". Every song is a masterpiece. Pictured is the 2003 remaster/reissue on heavyweight vinyl, as unfortunately I parted company with my original 1980 pressing about 25 years ago.

Now spinning: "The Joshua Tree" by U2 (1987). Whatever we may think of what Bono has become in the years since, this is still an utterly stupendous album. The opening three tracks are amongst the most sublime 15 minutes in rock music, ever.

Now spinning: "Dreamboat Annie" by Heart (1975). Can't go wrong with Heart's double-platinum-selling debut album. Pictured is my 1976 UK edition (September 1975 was the original release date in the band's native Canada).

Now spinning: "The House That Dirt Built" by The Heavy (2009) In the mood for some absolutely classic "rock n' soul", and this collection of songs which has been widely used to soundtrack games, TV shows, and movies (especially "Short Change Hero").

Now spinning: Plastic Letters by Blondie (1978) My favourite Blondie LP is Parallel Lines. But, Plastic Letters is where I fell in love. Specifically, "Denis", performed on TOTP, including Ms Harry wearing a top legal by about 1/2". 15-yr-old me was very impressed... with the music, obviously!

Now spinning: "A Pound of Feathers" by The Black Crowes (2026). First time out for this brand new arrival, released today. Kicks off with "Prophane Prophecy", a track that sounds like the bastard offspring of The Rolling Stones and AC/DC.

Now spinning: "Highway To Hell" by AC/DC (1979). Following up with one of the greatest rock albums ever. Just full of powerful riffs and great songs ... and "Night Prowler". Pictured is my original 1979 UK LP. "Shazbot, Nanu Nanu!"

"And it came to pass that rock n' roll was born!" Started with "Let There Be Rock", because it's a solid album that's overlooked and doesn't get anywhere near enough love, imo. And it kicks off with one of those incredible propulsive riffs that Malcom Young was a genius at crafting ("Go Down").

I'm in the mood for some high voltage rock n' roll. But, which album first? If you don't recognise some of these, that'll be because they are live bootlegs.

Now spinning: "Slippery When Wet" by Bon Jovi (1986). Following up the not-so-guilty pleasure of Bryan Adams with this absolute banger.

Lady Corwyn reserves a special hatred for this specific song. Unfortunately, I have the 12" single. ;-)

Now spinning: "Reckless" by Bryan Adams (1984). Lady Corwyn hates Bryan with a passion, so I don't often get a chance to listen to this excellent album. So, with her away, what better way to kick off an evening of arena rock than Mr Adams' anthems of ... err.. infidelity and oral sex? Wait, what???

Now spinning: "Virtual Summer" by Sam Millar (2024). A perfect dose of 80s-style melodic rock, fitting for the current heatwave. For bonus points, I'm also wearing the album-themed Hawaiian shirt that came with preorder bundles!

Now spinning: "Rising" by Rainbow (1976). In honor of its 50th birthday, we've turned the amps up to 11 and are blasting out "Rising". Not only a hugely formative influence on my developing musical tastes in 1976, but also one of the greatest albums in hard rock and metal!

Now spinning: "Beggar's Banquet" by The Rolling Stones (1968). An important album for the Stones, their first with key producer Jimmy Miller, and a shift away from psychedelic pop and back to the roots rock/blues rock sound of their earliest years.

These are all solid choices, but I might also be rather tempted to save the "Shine" compilation CDs published by Polygram Records between 1995 and 1998.

On this day in 1994, the album “Parklife” went to #1 in the official U.K. Album Charts. So-called ‘Britpop’ dominated the U.K. charts for half a decade. Currently giving the album its first spin in a while. Holds up quite well.

Well, Vangelis got Lady Corwyn and me in the mood for this - “Tron Legacy OST” by Daft Punk. I may be in a minority, but I rate this as possibly the duo’s masterpiece, above even “Random Access Memories”.

Now spinning: "Blade Runner" OST, by Vangelis. There are two types of great movie soundtracks. Of those with wholly original - and often boundary pushing - music this is a true giant. Vangelis' compositions play a full role in the world building going on in Ridley Scott's cinematic masterpiece.
