St Mo Domnóc (d. 550) of Tiprat Fachtna/ #Tibraghny #Kilkenny was St David's beekeeper. When returning x3 bees followed! St David allowed him to take them! “In a little boat, from the east, over the pure-coloured sea, my Domnoc brought the gifted race of Ireland's bees #medieval #saints #HoneyBeeDay
The 7th century bee-judgements 'bechbretha' from the Brehon Laws are in my book St Brigid & Other Amazing Irish Women, in St Gobnait's story! 23 stories, 23 activity tasks, lots facts, lots myths/folklore, fun poetry, 343 saint name checklist, 20 lesser-known saints, & a quiz! #medieval #medievalsky
In old Irish Brehon law they wrote the bee-judgements, 'bechbretha'! These covered all sorts of issues such as what to do if bees trespassed (!), how to decide who owned bees, how to punish bee or honey theft & how much honey a beekeeper should offer neighbours! #medieval #medievalsky #HoneyBeeDay 🐝
St Gobnait used honey in healing & her bees were super-heroes! One day her cattle were being stolen by the O'Donoghues of the Glens, & she drove them off with her bees! In another version, the beehive turned into a bronze helmet & the bees turned into soldiers! #medieval #medievalsky #HoneyBeeDay 🐝🍯
