In front of Kidwelly castle there is a monument to a Welsh warrior princess, Gwenllian ferch Gruffyd, who led an army against the Norman invaders in 1136 and was captured, with her two sons, and beheaded. The field behind the castle where her execution took place is still called Gwenllian’s field.

I went along to hear Katja’s talk about her latest book this week. Katja did brilliantly, her train was delayed and she arrived at the venue direct from the station having been travelling for 10 hours!

Australian memorial park near Fromelles commemorates those who fell at Fromelles on 19th and 20th July 1916. The park is located on what would have been the site of the German front line.
Pheasant Wood Cemetery, Fromelles, contains the graves of 250 Australian and British soldiers who died on the 19th and 20th July 1916, and whose remains were recovered from the area in 2009. The cemetery was completed in 2010.
St Charles de Potyze French cemetery is the largest French cemetery in Belgium with 4200 graves. Of the 762 unidentified soldiers 616 are buried in a mass grave.
