Academic teaching law (England and Wales) with obsessive interest in the subject, also general interest in books, philosophy, gaming, history, art. Views my own.
Finally at the other side of a particularly intense and long marking period, I am treating myself to this read. ‘A Shattered Idol: the Lord Chief Justice and his Troublesome Women’ by Tom Hughes, about the Victorian Lord Chief Justice Lord Coleridge’s scandals.
I’m reading Dame Elizabeth Lane’s autobiography Hear the Other Side. This remarkable woman was not only the first female High Court judge, but she also hired the first female judge’s clerk (on Lord Denning’s recommendation) and was the first female Bencher of an Inn of Court.
Received my signed copy, thank you @levparikian.bsky.social Looking forward to reading it!
Just treated myself after my eye test to a mooch round Oxfam books, and found three 1960s Nancy Drew’s. Very pleased with these. Would have slightly preferred the 1970s paperbacks that I read as a child, but these are beautiful.
My Christmas present to myself arrived yesterday. Looking forward to this, Macmillan is a political figure I must admit I don’t know much about.
Mine’s a little bit darker, I guess. But the heart wants what the heart wants.
Repost with your first crush. Bruce Boxleitner in Scarecrow and Mrs King, completely age-inappropriate. But I loved him. And one of Haircut 100, but I can’t remember which.
Thank you @foxlanebooks.bsky.social for the latest addition to my tbr pile - looking forward to reading this!
In disgrace for leaving something disgusting on the carpet, and couldn’t care less
