Last week I gave a talk on what TTRPGs are and why they're cool (with an audience that isn't super familiar with games). 11 people were so interested as to want to try them out. So here I am, preparing two Brindlewood Sessions (aka Murder She Wrote the RPG) for this week.
A Confusing Map is part of the Leftfield Collection at MCM Birmingham. I'm not around, but there's a cool game exhibition there😁
It's been heartwarming to see all the love A Playlist for the End of the World has been getting since its release. Thanks to the work of Kaja Solska, the game is now available in Polish too (on top of English, Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese). ludipe.itch.io/a-playlist-f...
The player reactions to today's Thinky Dailies (@thinkygames.com) puzzle are so good. If you have played the last ones, you'll really appreaciate what @m-enderbug.bsky.social did on this puzzle. thinkygames.com/dailies/
I've been meaning to read something from Patricia A. McKillip for such a long time. Finally giving this a try.
There are so many games the world forgot about that are absolutely fascinating. These days, I was thinking about Mizzurna Falls, a PS1 game with huge Twin Peaks vibes where you explore the city trying to figure out what happened to a missing classmate.
I often think about how I want more games that tackle the drama and planning we see in spy movies and shows. Sure, we have plenty of action/stealth games where you are a spy infiltrating some facility. But not a lot about what happens at the offices, plotting, considering diplomacy and so on.
I have this tiny Steam curator called: My friends don't understand why I love these games so much. @rothiotome.bsky.social and @montxaldre.bsky.social gave me this t-shirt yesterday for my birthday.
Back home after my trip to @amazefest.bsky.social. It's wild how year after year they keep building a very inspiring and welcoming space that challenges your ideas on games and play. Hope you enjoyed my silly hyper talk about playing games in unintended ways!
I'm doing one of the Hyper Talks at @amazefest.bsky.social (they start at 15:00h). Mine will be the one with the Spanish title.
I saw @cdiffin.bsky.social performing The Invisible Casino at @amazefest.bsky.social and it was such a cool experience. You are trying to understand the rules of the game in front of a very serious silent croupier. cdiffin.itch.io/the-invisibl...
Hi! Don't know if this has been reported already, but the "Order Now" button on Kickstarter takes me to a page that won't load.
Thinking about those games I end up playing every year. Are there any games you keep going back to? - Thief II: The Metal Age - Caves of Qud - Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire - Stardew Valley - Hoplite
There are hours and hours of puzzles that you can play fully free on your phone or PC. This is all thanks to the amazing team behind it. ICYMI, @m-enderbug.bsky.social is now writing the rules and hints for all the puzzles, and @philippawarr.bsky.social joined us to lead the game's narrative.
I'm attending Upupa this week (and working from there). A week-long camp for game developers in Portugal. www.sende.co/upupa
Probably the most memorable paragraph I've ever read in a game manual. I think about it a lot. Basically saying that "rules are for the small-minded and weak", because kids don't need a manual to play and have fun.
Even today, the combat design still feels very innovative and strong. After choosing your classes, you have access to about 200 skills, from which you can choose 8 for your adventures. The skills are highly readable and their descriptions tend to be only 1-2 sentences.
We played the new Discworld TTRPG today. Some people in the group had never roleplayed, most weren't familiar with Discworld, and I always struggle DMing. But we had a blast. Very straightforward rules, it's all about the narrative, and features plenty of funny situations to explore.
I really love Esoteric Ebb. It's a great game and 100% my jam. It's been many years since I enjoyed an RPG this much. One of those rare occasions when knowing I'm getting closer to the end makes me sad.
