Happy Birthday to one of the great animated movies, and also the first Studio Ghibli movie I ever watched, Spirited Away (2001)! I wouldn’t say it’s my absolute favourite (Here’s looking at you my beloved Kiki’s Delivery Service and Porco Rosso!), but it’s for sure one of Miyazaki’s best.
Trying to wrap my head around Jeff Kanew being both the editor of Ordinary People (1980) and the director of Troop Beverly Hills (1989).
Jim Henson didn’t perform The Rainbow Connection while inside a diving bell submerged in a tank so you could tell me that AI is “inevitable.”:
If there were a better alternate universe, this would be the cast of the Fables movie we never got.:
Name a book/comic that deserves a film.: Fables, which was almost a series except that Once Upon a Time beat it to the punch. I quite enjoy Once Upon a Time, but Fables would have rocked.
Finian’s Rainbow is easily in my Top 10 worst movies of all-time. Watch it once just to see for yourself, and then throw the disc into the Springfield Mystery Spot.
Here are four Christmas movies you should watch instead of the proposed Grinch sequel.:
What's your favourite movie from each decade of your life?: It’s fairly early in my film-watching journey, but here are my picks thus far.: 90s-Toy Story (1995) 00s-Finding Nemo (2003) 10s-Paddington 2 (2017) 20s-Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. (2023)
After introducing them to the basics of music (melody, pitch, instrumentation, rhythm, etc.), I would give them the following playlist to listen to.:
Why am I like this?: -The animated Disney canon -Peanuts comic strips -Jim Henson -Turner Classic Movies -Various children’s authors (Maurice Sendak, Arnold Lobel, William Steig, Jan Brett, Shel Silverstein, etc.) -Being born during the early days of internet, but before every kid had a smartphone
In addition to her voice work in The Little Mermaid (1989) and My Neighbor Totoro (2005 Disney dub), I hope others check out her late career role in the underseen folk music drama Songcatcher (2000). It’s a small part, but it’s nice to see her in a live-action movie post-Ursula.🎂🎈
Guests are having a swell time at our opening night mixer.:🥂 #StayAtHomeFilmFestival
I was 3 going on 4 in 1999, so my memory of the movies I was taken to that year is hazy at best. I remember Toy Story 2, and possibly also Tarzan and Stuart Little. That being said, I’ve caught up on so many great movies from that year. I‘m planning to add Titus, which I own on DVD, to that list.
