One thing that is definitely part of the parent experience is suddenly realising that you own an astonishing number of horses* on wheels. *also zebras, unicorns and assorted other critters

The world us full of horrors, but today, my husband and I built our kid her first-ever snowman and the neighbours decorated it while we were out grocery shopping.

Here's an unperfect, not staged, blurry Christmas photo of my family. It's fine. It captures a cute memory. It's a thousandfold better than AI.

"My three daughters all voted Harris in Oregon, a state that gave all its Electoral College votes to Harris. Two of them have now stopped speaking to me (and one is boycotting Thanksgiving) because I voted Trump. I did not tell them how to vote, nor ever presume to argue or convince them that they are misled by propaganda. I let them vote how they wish. It sucks that I must now suffer their childish and frankly rude behaviour, merely because they believe my one vote harmed them or their rights in some way. Liberalism really is a mental disorder.

Can we stop acting like joy has an age limit? If buying a stuffed animal, rewatching cartoons, using a colouring book, collecting cute stationery, or sleeping with a fuzzy blanket brings you peace in this chaotic world, that's valid. The world is heavy. Bills are real. Burnout is constant. If something soft or silly makes it even a little bit lighter, let it. Being an adult doesn't mean you have to let go of the things that once made you feel safe or happy. We don't need less joy. We need more of it. Louder. Brighter. Unapologetic. Smile at the small things. Buy the plushie. Get the happy meal. Hug the pillow. Pick the pen with the glitter ink. You're not too grown. You're just tired. And you deserve softness too.
