Effects of Direct Sunlight
When left unprotected in direct sunlight, the intense UV radiation breaks down the polymer chains of aromatic polyureas like Pipeliner
5000.
Micro-Cracking & Delamination: As the exposed polymer degrades, it becomes brittle, leading to micro-cracking and eventual separation from the substrate.
It is important to note that direct sunlight, heat, and certain chemical treatments can exacerbate material failures. For example, when used in open-air water basins, the combination of harsh sunlight and oxidizers like hydrogen peroxide used for algae control can accelerate the breakdown of the polymer chains.

Crack repair using manufacturer-approved sealants
Complete joint removal, cleaning, backer rod installation, and refiling with Rhino CCW Polyurea
• Application of Rhino 11-35 Polyurea as the joint cap/elastic layer
Application of Rhino 406 Epoxy Primer at -5 mils DFT
Installation of Rhino Pipeliner 5000 polyurea system to a final thickness of 100 mls +
Sealing of the horizontal coping joint using manufacturer-approved sealants
Thickness verification, adhesion testing, and spark (holiday) testing
Mobilization from April 1-3, in-pool work beginning April 6, and substantial completion by May 22
These services are required to produce a seamless, monolithic, waterproof, antimicrobial, and anti-algae system suitable for continuous submersion.
These services are essential to restore structural durability, prevent microbial growth, ensure public-safe conditions, and maintain the integrity and appearance of a nationally significant landmark.
The IGE for this project is $10,256,576, based on historical coating-system costs, labor and material pricing for similar structural-concrete repairs, market pricing for Rhino Linings polyurea and associated system components.
