From the thread below that post. This, along with accusations that your permit is fraudulently obtained or belongs to someone else is an example of what people deemed not to look sufficiently disabled have to put up with. I rest my case.

I’m constantly yelling ate people to move their cars. I would love the ability to report them. Not disabled myself but it pisses me off soooo much!

I've found that, even more than yelling, an effective technique is to calmly tell them to move their vehicle or you'll give them a legitimate need for a handicapped placard.

Yeah I think this is one of the extremely few times when looking like a maniac who would actually cripple someone for fun works in my favor. I also get lots of space on the sidewalk and public transit, and people in movie theaters and music venues follow my orders. Other than that it sucks though.

Alternatively, maybe people should mind there own business because people with invisible disabilities get abuse using accessible facilities by people who feel entitled to guard those spaces with zero authority on a daily basis and have better things to do than fight bogus charges in court.

They should give handicap tag holders the RIGHT, with their handicap tags, to report people parked illegally in handicap spots. Just take photos of the offending vehicles license plate. then submit it directly to the state as evidence & have the state ticket that person & add points, whatever etc

#EDM240 My email to my MP & their reply. She currently hasn't signed the EDM. Note: she doesn't actually respond to my main point, and says I highlighted things I didn't - I'm guessing she's copy pasted at least a few of these.

My very brief email:

This guidance puts all women and girls at risk of harassment and abuse based on their appearance, but more importantly it's a urinary leash on trans people that's devastating to their participation in society.

Before you were elected, you told me via DM on X that you were an LGBTQ+ ally. Was that just lip service with the sanctimonious "dignity and respect" suffix all your colleagues are trotting out, or do you intend to stand up for the trans community & gender non-con forming women and girls and disapprove this dangerous guidance that gives licence for vigilante policing of public facilities?

Alex Baker's Reply Part 1:

Thank you for contacting me about the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s updated Code of Practice for services, public functions and associations, including guidance on single-sex spaces.

I want to start by saying very clearly that I am a friend of the LGBTQ+ community. This is not an abstract issue for me. I have a family member who is transitioning, and I know how important it is that transgender people are treated with love, dignity and respect. Everyone should be able to be themselves and live their life free from intimidation, abuse or fear.

I am also deeply horrified by the number of suicides within the transgender community. That should weigh heavily on all of us. At a time when many transgender people are feeling frightened or uncertain, I believe we have a responsibility to show compassion, care and humanity. We must show love to the transgender community.

Alex Baker's Reply Part 2:

As you highlight, last year the Supreme Court ruled that sex in the Equality Act 2010 refers to biological sex. Following consideration and scrutiny by Ministers, updated guidance from the Equality and Human Rights Commission was laid in Parliament on 21 May to reflect this.

I know that transgender people and organisations have expressed serious concerns about the new guidance. It is very important to emphasise that neither the Supreme Court judgement, nor the new code, alter the fact that transgender people remain a protected group under the Equality Act 2010 and should be able to live their lives free from harassment and discrimination.

The guidance, while reflecting the findings of the Supreme Court in terms of access to single-sex spaces, also emphasises that service providers should make sure transgender people have access to essential services, such as toilets. It says they should consider if and how transgender people may be disadvantaged and suggests a holistic approach to service provision, including a mix of services which may include both separate or single-sex services and mixed-sex services. Specialist legal advice should be taken, if needed.

Alex Baker's Reply Part 3:

Parliament now has 40 days from when the guidance was published to consider it.

It is also extremely important to note that the Supreme Court warned against reading its judgement “as a triumph of one or more groups in our society at the expense of another”. As it explained, transgender people are protected by the Equality Act 2010, passed by the last Labour Government, not only against discrimination through the protected characteristic of gender reassignment, but also against direct discrimination, indirect discrimination and harassment in substance in their acquired gender. These protections are available to transgender people regardless of whether they possess a Gender Recognition Certificate.

I support the Government’s belief that everybody must be treated with dignity and respect, and that we must uphold the Equality Act. I also believe that now more than ever, people in positions of authority, including politicians, must speak out for our shared values of tolerance, respect and fair-mindedness.

Does anyone know why side along apparition wasn't introduced until the Half-Blood prince?

During the quidditch World Cup they could've easily used side along apparition instead of all having to use portkeys.

Additionally, during the fifth book, they could've gotten to Grimmauld place a lot easier through side along apparition instead. I just wanted to see what you guys think because I was recently re-reading the series and it's something I noticed.

My reply:

It was a contrivance to suddenly introduce portkeys because she wanted to seed the concept so she could use it with the Tri-wizard trophy at the end of the book. Then didn't really need it for anything else. See also timeturners.

Later on she wanted apparation and added risk of splinching and training required as an excuse for it not being mentioned earlier, and to make an analogue for learning to drive because most of her world building is wizard versions of real stuff.

It's really not that deep.

There's some evidence they existed and were used, but it's exceedingly sparse. This seems to be all of it aside from the early action figures. I can see they were trying to make an intermediate step to the future uniforms in All Good Things, but they looked awful.
