The analysis on pain relief provided to women giving birth, published in the journal Anaesthesia, examined data collected over a 10-year period up until 2021.

It found that women from a Bangladeshi, Pakistani and Black Caribbean background were less likely than white women to receive an epidural while having a vaginal birth. They were 24%, 15% and 8% less likely respectively.

I was reading about a robocleaner that cleans window outsides. I have a second-floor picture window too wide to reach, the review was enthusiastic, and I was all set to buy. Then I got to the privacy bit, and they lost a sale. No. This is a one-time purchase, not an invitation to further contact.

But as with many robotic cleaners and their associated apps, EcoVacs does collect data from its app, which the company outlines in its privacy agreement. “Data is gathered and shared with third parties for marketing and advertising,” said TC Chang, a product manager at Ecovacs, in an email.

Here's Vance's latest, Communion, on his conversion. I don't understand why he converted at all. Like, if you can't buy into any of the things he lists, Protestantism may be right for you!

Often, the strongest emotion Vance seems able to express in “Communion” is his distaste for the tenets and rituals of the faith he has elected to join. “For an evangelical, the weirdest Catholic sacrament may be the rite of confession and reconciliation,” Vance writes. “The idea of speaking of my sins to a stranger mortified me.” Of the Eucharist—the culminating sacrament of the Catholic Mass—Vance observes, “This was always a little weird to me as a Protestant: You guys actually think this bread converts to the body of Christ?” He tells us that some Protestants he knows “really don’t like the Catholic practice of praying to saints.” Asking a friend to say a prayer for a loved one is normal, Vance explains, “but they draw the line at consulting dead people—‘Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.’ ” Vance doesn’t bother glossing what, precisely, is odd about the Ave Maria, a prayer which the median cradle Catholic has uttered hundreds or thousands of times; its line-crossing weirdness, it seems, can speak for itself.

My garden is always rumpled. The rose bush spills over the fence from our neighbor's yard.

S&P 500, S&P MidCap 400, and S&P SmallCap 600 Results: Based on S&P DJI's Index Committee review of the markets and after consideration of responses received from a wide range of market participants, no changes will be made to the eligibility criteria including financial viability screens, seasoning period, or minimum IWF, for the S&P 500, S&P MidCap 400, or S&P SmallCap 600 as a result of the S&P Dow Jones Indices consultation on the treatment of MegaCap companies. Accordingly, there will be no changes to existing methodology for this index family.

S&P DJI determined that exceptions to the financial viability, seasoning, and IWF requirements should not be granted solely based on market capitalization. The decision not to adopt the proposed exceptions preserves core index principles by maintaining consistent application of these key requirements. Although there may be trade-offs between strict adherence to these eligibility requirements and broad representativeness, the current methodology provides substantial market coverage and sector balance. As a result, the indices can continue to meet their stated objectives while preserving their role as representative and investable benchmarks for the U.S. equity market.
