I’m reminded of what I said about the student film that got some backlash last year “Angelic Kitty Miracle Limit-Chan”, in a review/analysis piece I have yet to put up.
It’s mildly amusing how some political cartoonists weren’t even waiting for Mitch McConnell to croak, only for Lindsey Graham to do it first.

One of favorites of these is this clearly well-drawn vinyl compilation from France. Only in 1981 could you realize a cover with this collection of characters.
Looking at Latin American dubs from the 90s and 2000s, the Anglosphere missed out on translating more opening and ending themes. Newly created openings are cool, but there’s potential to make magic with the alternative. Look at what Funimation and Sara White did with Yu Yu Hakusho‘s “Smile Bomb”
Post a cartoon you remember that (you think) no one else remembers. Technically not a real show, but it popped up enough during the mid-2000s on Playhouse Disney for me not to forget it.
And then a bunch of people did that for real in the future. Haven't cracked the "winning stuff by watching" element yet though.
Fun fact from head writer @srothbell.com: when Brendon Small appeared on the TV show Clarence, he was meant to just be a guest star on their one improv episode, but the designers decided to make his character look like an adult version of his character from Home Movies (as a fun joke presumably).
Today’s the first day of Pride Month Coincidentally I just realized that deadnaming transpeople is kind of on the same wavelength as English-speaking nerds pushing 50 and Latin Americans who refuse to call these guys “Eggman“ and “Kermit” respectively.
Currently rewatching the animated miniseries "This World Won't Can't Me Down" directed by the Italian cartoonist Zerocalcare. This part in the 3rd episode of him recounting his experience with a childhood friend reminded me of the Gundam fanart I quote repost below. (1/2)
Ever since I saw this TikTok author Jason K. Paragin (@jasonkpargin.bsky.social) made about some boomer cartoon about coffee, I can’t stop thinking about it. This line of thinking can be applied to SO many conversations, and it’s not specific to one generation, ethnicity or gender.

It’s my birthday today. I’m 30 years old now. I kind of hoped I had accomplished more things before then (whether that’s writing or drawing), but at least I’m still living. Thank you everyone that is still sticking with me for whatever reason.

Then there's Steve Smith from American Dad!, showing how characters can evolve if writers get the freedom they want. Him & his group of friends went from being nerd archetypes to really charismatic "losers" with their own quirks. Name one other white nerd that's a master R&B singer. (2/2)
Coming back to this post Karl made since I wanted to spotlight two other examples: The MTV animated series "Downtown" by Chris Prynoski shows how nerds are not simply good or bad guys, but people with unique hang-ups and interests. The character Alex and episode "The Con" display that.(1/2)
You can trace back the Anglosphere's hatred of anime dubs (regardless of their quality) to the cheap English dubs of kung fu movies coming out of Hong Kong from long ago. It's obvious the latter had a MAJOR impact on how people perceived the genre. Take this scene from a family film for example:

Woah! I had no idea I was your first commissioner! I’m honored. As you can see, I asked for Hiroshi and Misae from Crayon Shin-Chan (specifically how they look in the 18th film) being affectionate to one another. Got sick of the fat jokes and wanted something sweet.
Not every old head was anti-anime during the 90s and the 2000s; plenty of folks saw the appeal if you knew where to look. For example, the Pinky & the Brain comics did parody stories of both Robotech and Ranma 1/2. The writer, Jesse Leon McCann, was 32 at the time.
I was thinking about how people would refer to different pieces of entertainment as “Post-9/11 media” for various reasons. Decided to make this list as a result. Feel free to add any if you're interested.
