Movie fanatic. Writer. Lover. He/him.
Post a perfect album from the 1990s that isn't Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam or Alice In Chains.
I’m at The Director’s Village (aka Westwood Village theater) for opening night of The Odyssey. No matter the film’s quality, it’s exciting to be in a packed theater with the audience buzzing and energized. Long Live The Cinema! @amcinematheque.bsky.social
Here they are across from each other in what may be an iconic weekend at the movies. As of this instant, Obsession, in its third weekend, has sold more tickets in this theater.
I’m so sorry to hear of the death of great jazz saxophonist Sonny Rollins at age 95. He first recorded with J.J. Johnson in 1949. His first album as group leader was in 1954. He last performed publicly in 2012. This famous 1958 picture is of incredible jazz musicians. He was the last survivor.
An endearing photo of the maestro, if you’re curious, he’s reading Among Schoolchildren by Tracy Kidder. I’ve not read it.
Ghostbusters was in re-release (August 23, 1985) despite having come out in June 1984. The Breakfast Club had been in theaters a really long time, since February 15th 1985. Yet all this worked in conjunction with a Blockbuster being there.
Been a while since a hated movie was well liked by me. The movie is… Alpha In short, the alienation & disconnection spoke to me. People turning to stone was inspired. Metaphorically, some people become stone & leave your life. I guess Julia Ducournau and I are the only ones who like it. Oh, well.
Steamy shadows, lust, and corruption came to @amcinematheque.bsky.social with Noir City tonight. Eddie Muller & Allen Rode introduced Black Angel, which was followed by Blues In The Night. Come to Noir City! All kinds of shady characters are around. @christafaust.bsky.social
Tom Noonan is rightfully best known for being actor and will be missed. But he was also a gifted writer & director. What Happened Was is a terrific oddball drama/romance/comedy from 1994. In a better world, it would be much more famous. I give a high recommendation.
Fredrick Wiseman, the great documentarian, has died. If you have a participating library, and a library card, his documentaries are available for free on Kanopy. Supporting libraries and bookstores is what he wanted.
One of the greatest to ever work in cinema, ROBERT DUVALL, has died. Whether subtle or bold, he was an expert craftsman who was invaluable to any production. There are numerous titles I could recommend. I choose a lesser known one: The Outfit. Based on a Richard Stark novel, it’s a fun crime movie.
Age verification? The Commodore Pet was our first computer. The keyboard was so small that only I could use it because I was a little kid. There was no floppy disk drive. Instead it used cassette tapes for uploading programs/apps. A game I liked had a monster chasing me that was only —-> @
