It’s funny that I’ve had this for a couple of years and it’s just these particular javelina that are vandals. Next step will be to try your method. I did set up a backup inside the fence while I’m away and the bobcats found it.

It was great to see LPL grads and alums bringing planetary science perspective to brown dwarfs at the Charting Substellar Worlds workshop this week. Wonderful science and great setting.

Finally had a chance to rebuild and re-armor our wildlife watering station after a very very bad javelina tore it apart and broke the bowl. The quail are appreciative.
I broadly agree with you however will point out that Lodders (e.g., Lodders 1999, figure below) has always said you get both MgSiO3 and Mg2SiO4. Early models tended to pick one species for simplicity. The alkali clouds form at T's below around 900K.
