Game Developer by day, asleep by night. If I'm not sleeping, I'm working on Railway Life 🚂
We've hit a huge milestone, one of my videos has surpassed 100k views!! I may just celebrate with a new video in a couple of days 🥳
After some years of development on Railway Life, we finally have a trailer! Some things have had to change recently to make the project more achievable as a solo project, but really excited to share its new look with all of you :)
I'm going to stream some jam development later today on my YouTube, keep an eye out for a little postal van ✉
Got a lot of feedback from my last Railway Life video, there seemed a large amount of people who really wanted shunting. After a gruelling amount of effort to get it working I can admit... ...okay maybe shunting is kinda fun #gamedev
While I was at it, experimented with another, more manual option of speed control. Tried it as a way to have the player more involved in the train control, but I'm not convinced so far. Will need to explore more...
Trying to make the train controls a bit more fluid and reactive to drag + slopes. Decided to give the UI a bit of a facelift too. It's going to take me a long time to get it right, but it's a start!
Somehow managed to get my game in to the #GMTKJam this year, where your actions are controlled through a looping timeline track. Lots of issues but pretty proud of it at least as a proof-of-concept mashupgames.itch.io/jumpbeat
Does this count as me featuring on the channel @talyllyn.co.uk ?
New video in the works, hopefully will be up next week if everything stays on track!
please tell me you all see a face too and that it's not just me
There's finally some actual gameplay! #gamedev #indiedev #indiegame
WIP of the first station/location to have some art put into it. Hoping to do this more as I build up the world! #gamedev #indiedev #RailwayLife
Created a debug freefly camera so I could get cool shots for videos and...well it's just so good I may need to convert it into an in-game photo mode (whoops)
Added a debug menu so things will be much quicker to test down the line, but for now I'm just using it to make the player move super fast...so yeah it was worth it
Here's a clip I got from back in May when I experimented with track "physics" and shunting. Whilst the clip looks good, it didn't work most the time :( will need to revisit later at some point
📌 Hey there, I'm Ollie :D I'm a UK game developer currently working on Railway Life: a slice-of-life exploration game where you travel around an island on the forgotten railways, with your own steam engine 🚂
Got some turntables working, not shown here but it can handle multiple points! #gamedev
I need to start posting on here more now that Bluesky allows videos...anyways I'm making a slice-of-life railway exploration game called Railway Life, lookie! #gamedev
