my attempt to capture today's solar eclipse through the reflection from my phone to my glasses #eclipse #solarsclipse #nyc
The city issued about 125K parking placards, mostly attached to personal vehicles. So we are looking at approximately 4x larger than the parking footprint of the fleet itself. Again, with some gross estimation, one might be looking at ~44,000 street spots, metered at ~$2000/yr avg, ~88M/yr.
The stats page is deliberately thin. Goodreads sometimes exports no start dates, so reading pace for imported books might not be calculated. Four things that are true beats a page of charts that are quietly empty. See the project page here: masoudmim.github.io/dogear/
You can log progress by page, percent, time elapsed, or time remaining. That last one exists because some audiobook apps tell you how much is left rather than how far you've come, and I was tired of doing the subtraction in my head every time.
The import is the part I cared most about. Export the CSV from Goodreads and it maps your shelves to statuses, keeps ratings, read dates and reviews, and pulls series names out of the titles where Goodreads buries them.
Goodreads turned off its API a while back and the @obsidian.md plugins that imported from it quietly died. I had about a decade of reading history stuck in there, so I spent the last while writing a replacement. It's called Dogear and it's in the community plugin browser now.

Saw the film for the second time 🎬 last night. Still left me with so many mixed emotions —reminding me, as always, of the deep complexities surrounding Iran as a nation and its people 📚 Had the privilege of attending a post-screening Q&A with the cast and director afterward, too.
I truly think we need to name more structures, places, and innovations after dedicated engineers to honor them and their work. #nyc #engineering #mechanical #civil

Sketch Mechanisms is a community plugin for @obsidian.md that turns a small code block into a live, looping, hand-drawn animation of a classic 2D mechanism. #mechanism #obsidian #engineering

finished the project by building an android app to access it on my phone while I'm connected to my home network as well
my side side project this week was to find a way so I don't have to continuously search my inboxes for various information. ended up over-engineering a solution via a RAG system with Thunderbird add-on fully developed and run on my home server
