Anxiety was through the roof tonight so I was like: why not paint that mini you have been avoiding for a year because the wings are going to be a PITA? I mean you’re dressed anyway. 90 minutes later…
Obligatory “ the sky looks like nicotine-stained teeth again” pic. Friend said it looks like Fallout out there.
Birdie can be skittish and a little distant, so when she decides to reach out and connect, I basically don’t move til she does.
Some colleagues in communications said they needed a mascot and I needed a distraction from doomscrolling so anyway, this is Comms Pigeon, he is very stressed all the time.
The human tendency to nickname cats is so arcane and weird. Example: I often call Birdie sweet pea but that has regularly become “the sweetest of peas.” She is also sometimes Birdadette.
I was just telling a friend who is working on her first indie film about how there's a shot from BTS of Certainly Never where you can see me fully collapsing from all the director/producer responsibilities and I just found it. I was clearly longing for the sweet release of death:
Spent the week only marginally online, drifting around Edinburgh where I've never been before, and honestly, being barely online feels better, not working on a laptop for 12 hours a day made my eyes feel less brutalized, and returning to being eternally at a computer feels like a death sentence.
"When thowes dissolve the snawy hoord, An' float the jinglin' icy boord, Then water-kelpies haunt the foord, By your direction, And 'nighted trav'llers are allur'd To their destruction."
A friend sent me this guy to paint, he was very difficult to paint, so I went with a messy technique and I think he looks like a storm god now?
This David Aja panel from the ever-relevant Fraction/Aja Hawkeye series just popped up in my saved images and man, plus ça change, right?
“Show me what comic you loved when you were 13, and that’s all I need to know about you.” - Brad Meltzer
If a player you DM for sends you a miniature of their favorite NPC you hand paint it, right? Theramir, aka “clock guy,” chronomancer philosopher, infuriating the party for the last 54 sessions.
Before and after for Watson the Wonder Dog’s summer cut, just in time for the heat wave.
I always hated watching myself in the films we did because I’d harshly judge very cell of my person, and that’s how I missed seeing that there’s a shot of me looking like I could be in Medicine Man with Sean Connery.
I try to never look at LInkedIn if I can help it, but just got this marketing email and I want to just walk out into the woods and disappear forever. (It's promoting a "book" by the CEO, of course.)
Inspired by a midlife crisis and/or watching Black Sails, decided to get my ear re-pierced. Shamefully, the 20-year-old hole in my ear was NOT healed shut and the piercer just put a new hoop in for me. Could’ve done it at home. Anyway, I guess I’m in my aging pirate era or something.
It's like 40 degrees here and I have allergies. Truly my finest artistic endeavor (from like eight years ago.)
Sometimes I buy unnecessary things for the dopamine boost. (A few years back I tabled directly next to Stan Sakai at a comic con and I almost asked the showrunner if I was in the wrong spot because I am NOT cool enough to be his booth neighbor. The struggle to just be cool all weekend...)
This popped up in my old feed tonight where I’d slugged it: “how I’m handling life right now”:
10 years ago a tech company I worked for produced an action figure of a fake CEO we used in our marketing to show what NOT to do as a leader. The figure came with a miniature CEO mug. My pettiest hobby is occasionally taking pics of action figures of classic villains holding the cup.
I know, we all know, what using red, white, and black imagery on government buildings is really intentionally invoking, but a little part of my brain also goes: when a symbol of America got replaced by a petty, violent, garbage human being, the creative team replaced blue with black too.
That special magic when you THOUGHT you wrote out notes for an idea for a book (specifically an Indestructibles spinoff), you LOST said notes, and then you FIND said notes in the last place you thought you'd left them. Also concept art, found that, too.
So is this Masshole passive-aggressive or is shaming non-shovelers with angry faces active-aggressive?
I buy the dumbest things to try to brighten this dreary reality but this is a top shelf silly purchase.
No they did NOT, but I mean we're all just treating the NYT as a work of alternate history fiction these days, right? Between this and the AI article yesterday... They're not even running on the same operating system as our reality. Gawd I miss real, national newspapers.
If you see this, post a fictional character you want to be. (Spenser from the books, mainly. Did I take up jogging, boxing, and trying to overcome my internal biases because of Robert B. Parker? Yes. Do I still want to be Spenser 35 years after reading my first Spenser book? Also yes.)
Step away from the news to burn off some energy on the treadmill. Rewatching Farscape. Sci-fi, even at its zaniest, has been warning us since the beginning.
