#TimeTravelAuthors Day 1 Maelle wishes the 24 h of her team's exam mission would pass more quickly. She monitors Guy & Raoul #timetravel 500+ years in the past. If they pass, they'll be full time protection agents. If they fail, the timeline will change. 12yo Charlotte watches them work.
#TimeTravelAuthors Day 31 I haven't posted much this month due to vacation. My short stories STATUS GREEN and A SWEET DEAL are part of THE ACCIDENTAL TIME TRAVELERS COLLECTIVE, in vol. 2 and 3. Volume 1 is currently on special offer, more great #TimeTravel stories! www.amazon.com/dp/B0BQ5XF54M
Goose patrol checking why we haven't left yet. (We came back a bit later because I'd forgotten something. They were comfortably settled - fortunately not in the lawnchair - and loudly expressed their displeasure at our return.)
The orange race swim cap was compulsory, so I made do with the red swim suit.
We barely stopped there, we've been several times. We prefer the ones at Kerzerho not far away. Much less known, they were only fenced 3 years ago.
For #StandingStoneSunday, I present the menhirs at Carnac. Picture taken by me this very afternoon.
So yesterday I spontaneously participated in my very first open water race. Swimming in the sea is very different from races in the pool.
#TimeTravelAuthors Day 15 Maelle’s hacking will have been for nothing, Guy thought, and we’ll fail the exam. The mission needs to be flawless. ~STATUS GREEN
Happy #CanadaDay 🇨🇦 to all my Canadian friends, and also to my MC Clare and Emily, who are both Canadians. Fitting that I sent the ms off to my beta reader today after months of revising. I miss Canada. I have never been between visits so long.
This is a portrait of little Charlotte by Jean Clouet. He painted 2 generations of royal children (Francus's kids and son Henry's kids). I was at an exhibit a year ago or so, saw all the originals. Except this one which for some reason is in an American museum. So you're closer to Charlotte than me.
#TimeTravelAuthors Day 25 In STATUS GREEN, Charlotte (cameo of my WIP's MC) is the youngest character, she's still only 11 there while she's 12 in the WIP, where King Francis' youngest daughter Margaret is the youngest at only 13 months old. In A SWEET DEAL, Quentin is the youngest human character.🐶
I've been off for a few days on a brief family vacation. We're on our way home now. In order to help our almost 16yo get a better grasp on History,we stopped at Colleville. It was my first time there too but as a German I grew up learning a lot about this time period. Never forget. Never repeat.
Lots of fireplaces but still cold. (My story is set in summer but I once vsited for a no artificial lights evening tour in late October.)
#TimeTravelAuthors Day 5 As any guide will tell you, King Francis was REALLY into cotignac, a type of quince jelly. Charlotte gets to taste some when she chaperones the princess. Charlotte's dad's favorite snack is chocolate cake so sometimes she'll smuggle some for him to the 16th century. 🤫
#TimeTravelAuthors Day 3 Most of Charlotte's story is set at the royal palace of Amboise in 1524. I had to look up how old the wing shown in the photo is - it dates back to at least the mid-15th century.
#TimeTravelAuthors Day 29 Sorry I missed a few prompts during my holiday. My short story STATUS GREEN about which I posted this month, is available in the time travel anthology THE ACCIDENTAL TIME TRAVELERS COLLECTIVE, volume 2. Buy links on my website: www.maykenbruenings.com/time-travel/...
I'm back from Bologna! It was awesome. I learned a lot, both in class and outside. I already want to go back and explore another corner of Italy (and eventually, Rome and Pompei, my end goals). If anyone asks me now how many languages I speak fluently, I can proudly say "four".
I'm sorry I post Italy content instead of time travel stuff this week but this trip is so amazing. Today, I did a cooking course with an Italian lady and some fellow students. We made tortellini (which are from Bologna) and tiramisù. So much fun, and it was delicious! 😋
That gelateria I mentioned yesterday had some creative flavour names. One took a while for me. See, one symbol of Bologna is a pair of medieval towers. One of the flavours is named (in Italuan) "The Two Towers". Fine, right? Except another one is named (also in Italian) "Lord of the Rings". Love it.
So the lady in charge at the language school put me into the C1 class (level 5, C2 is considered native), and I did pretty well there! Did lots if other stuff both yesterday and today in Italian, including ordering a book at an Italian children's bookstore. And I had a most delicious gelato.
#TimeTravelAuthors Day 11 - point Time protection agent trainee Raoul gets a chance to talk with one of the bad guys.
#TimeTravelAuthors Day 31 I haven't participated as much this month as I intended to, but at least more regularly. If anyone's curious about Quentin, Maddy, Theo, the tomatoes, and that 2CV time machine, the short story is called A SWEET DEAL. More info here: www.maykenbruenings.com/time-travel/...
Look what I got yesterday! 15yo spotted some Para-Phryges in a mall while DH and I were running errands in town. We headed over, and could you believe it, these adorable mascots were on sale for 2€! I don't know how I managed to buy just one. So cute! Now I have my Phryge back at last.
#History #Adventure My CP's historical adventure JAGUARS AND OTHER GAME is currently free on Kindle! It's a breathtaking adventure set in Brazil during Portuguese rule. I fell in love with the manuscript when I first read it, but of course the published book is so much better!
#TimeTravelAuthors Day 9 I remembered this wrong and thought it was the story in emojis. But it's just the method! So here we go: A Sweet Deal: 🚓 (easy) Status Green: 💻🌍🎗 (The last item is a stand-in for a bracelet.)
