Another heat warning for today. It’s not horrible at 9 am. It’s only 20°C and feels like 26°C because of the humidity. But I’m sitting up in bed and Hollis is flopped against me and feels like a little heating pad.
I’m working from home today because of the heat. My cats are just staring at me wondering what the heck I’m doing here.
He can sleep on a bed, two love seats, three different cat beds, a rocking chair, but no…
These two goofballs make life worth living. They had just been wrestling. Muriel usually flips on her back and lets Hollis-kitten pounce. Check out that hind foot with its so many toes.
It’s a bed AND a chew toy. Hollis was trying to find cool spots in the apartment today. I miss his kitten size. He’s around a year old and becoming more independent and judgemental while still providing regular head-boops for smerps.
The aforementioned spicy dill pickle ramen: Spicy ramen with added kimchi (and sesame oil and gochugaru), sliced veggie dog and (trust me on this!) some dill pickle. I then added a broken up slice of Violife cheese to it and mixed it in so it melted.
I was supposed to have my year-end performance review today, so grabbed some Sesame Street socks out of the drawer for luck. It got rescheduled to next week. Behold, the power of Elmo!
I took a vacation day because I felt beat. I figured I’d sleep in a few more hours, but the cats had other ideas, so we played a long while. Then I ordered some seed starter kits via Instacart and am excited to start up my deck garden this weekend. (Hollis is so hyper!)
Local friends: If you like Indian food and have not yet gone to Mantra, go. Great customer service, unpretentious little spot, delicious food. It was everything I hoped it would be.
Hollis is “officially” a year old today according to his adoption papers. He was a colony kitten rescued when he was around four months old, so it was just a guess. He’s still so little!
Muriel and Hollis say “goodnight” as kitten Hollis falls asleep beside his big sister.
Called a cab to run an errand and stepped into it to find this inches from my face. He had one hanging from his mirror as well and I’m guessing from the godawful stench of them that they were new. The windows were all closed.
Breakfast for dinner. Tater tots, beans w/molasses and tofu scramble (with potatoes, onions, orange bell pepper, collards, corn, garlic, tomato, nooch, turmeric, black salt, tamari, pepper, cayenne, etc.).
Muriel on catnip! There’s no way I was going to scritch her belly in her state. She’s never put a tooth or claw on me before (and I doubt she would unless something significant happened) and she’s begun to appreciate belly rubs, but that wild-eyed look…
Tomorrow is the one-year anniversary of Muriel’s adoption. Her name was inspired by the Tom Waits song, as well as Salinger’s character in his short story “A Perfect Day for Bananafish”. She’s moody and loving and I can’t believe it’s been a year already. I hope she lives forever.
He looks calm, but seconds later he was trying to wedge himself between me and the back of the computer chair and all claws came out when I tried to coordinate. #HollisElijah
Working from home has left me witnessing a lot of stuff like this. I’ve never seen Muriel groom Hollis for this long and have never seen him stay so still for it.
