Historian of Indigenous America, writer of books, and hearer of bands you’ve never heard in dingy clubs you’ve not likely visited. Good at trivia. MichaelLeroyOberg.com
I highly recommend Claudia Rankine’s new prose poem “Triage.” I’ll be teaching Antigone again in a week. The tensions in those pained dialogues between Ismene and Antigone course through TRIAGE, exploring issues of how we resist, and stay sane, in an unjust world governed by our own gilded Creon.
Art History friends: found in the attic of mt grandmother’s house. It’s old. Any idea what it is (I know it’s a painting)?
If after the passage of 250 years the American Revolution remains “unfinished,” its ideals of unalienable rights to life, liberty and property unfulfilled, perhaps Americans in large numbers have never really subscribed to those ideals.
Orange skies Over Canandaigua Lake, as smoke From Canadian fires drifts through the region.
Listen, Linda. The 2.2 billion dollar windfall does not “raise questions” about potential conflicts of interest. It answers them in ways that demonstrate clear violations of the constitution. For the love of democracy, please do your job better.
Texas is requiring students read passages from the Bible. I wonder if the first chapter of Isaiah is on the list:
I went to the Omohundro Institute Conference this weekend in Nashville. It was a small gathering. But I met some nice people, heard some great work by young scholars, and came away energized and feeling creative. Great conversations, too, with friends I’ve known for decades. Needed this.
This Sunday at the Pittsford Community Library. Already have received a message from someone telling me I better not talk about genocide. Come join the chorus.
I read WANDERLUST during a week I spent wandering around Amsterdam with my daughter, who turned 15 during the trip, and her best friend. Your work is cemented as part of something I hope I will remember forever. Don’t let the bastards get to you.✌🏻
I hope you’re enjoying your day as much as Honey Butter enjoys Egg.
I would never do this during football season. It’s not football season. If you are in the area, feel free to stop by. Would love to see you.
Found this in my office mailbox. My honors student attached fifteen dollars to a book he borrowed from me. His roommate, he said, spilled a beer on it. Looking forward to handing this back to him as I send him off at one of the happiest places on earth, a college campus on graduation day.
Tomorrow, in Pultneyville, Wayne County. This talk I expect will be part of the concluding section to my current book project, a history of the Sullivan Campaign and dispossession in New York State. Stop by and say hello.
Hi Friends, I know this will be obvious to one of you, but can you tell me what the circles word is? “They do not at all _______ to,”. I’m missing something that appears obvious to some of you.
I read a post like Trump’s and think, yes, this guy would use nuclear weapons. A chilling thought on Easter Sunday.
Head cleared after visiting one of my favorite hometown places: Channel Islands National Park. Hiked from the North to the south shore of Santa Cruz Island
Ah, yes, let’s fall all over ourselves for the Genoese mariner who never once set foot in what became the US. It’s all so stupid. So just remember that they will continue to ruin lives, but it’s over for them. They’ve lost. Columbus, the enslaver, explorer and whore, is a loser’s cause.
I’m old enough to remember when Hunter Thompson called the Reagans “white trash with money,” and, hoo boy, I wish that label were still around to describe the sick fuck that 60% of white people, over three elections, thought was just perfect the perfect candidate president.
I read this wonderful book by one of my favorite authors on a long and bumpy flight last night. It’s an antidote to the darkness around us and a powerful call for continuing the good work we do. You are not alone. @rebeccasolnit.bsky.social’s work is a gift to us all. Go get yourself a copy.
