⚖️ If funding to nonprofit legal services is not restored, over 20,000 children will be left to navigate a complex legal system alone — against trained government attorneys, in a language they may not speak. Congress funded these services, but the Trump admin is refusing to pay.
🧸 Children should not be alone in court. Unaccompanied children are our neighbors, classmates, friends. Yet thousands of kids are now at risk of losing access to legal representation because the Trump administration is refusing to pay their attorneys the $65 million they owe.
Immigration detention harms immigrant families and, due to lack of care, is deadly. Earlier this year we sent a letter to ICE, calling on them to address ongoing medical and legal access concerns at North Lake Processing Center where Nenko Gantchev died: bit.ly/NLPCletter

Our hearts go out to the families of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero, two fathers killed by ICE. Enough is enough. We call on Congress to stop funding these deadly agencies. Rather than a blank check with no strings attached, we need accountability.
"Many TPS holders have been in our communities for a very long time. They've really spent decades building their lives here in Michigan. We welcomed them here, only to see that completely ripped away with the stroke of a pen." 🔗 bit.ly/MIRCKYR 🔗 www.cbsnews.com/detroit/news...

While it shouldn't have come to this, and the decision should have been unanimous, nevertheless, last week's SCOTUS ruling is a major victory for Michigan families and all Americans. The Constitution, not the president, determines who is an American citizen.
Our client who did “everything right and everything that was asked of him” was detained. “The rules of the game are changing in such a way as to make it almost unwinnable for those who came to our country to seek protection from persecution.” 🔗 planetdetroit.org/2026/07/mich...
These words have given hope to many - from the enslaved, to the dispossessed, to the huddled masses yearning to be free. While the contradictions abound, the ideals are enduring and have laid a foundation upon which we can build a greater vision of freedom and justice for all.🗽
MIRC remains at the ready to defend the rights of our child clients. ☎️ Contact your members of Congress to express concern: www.congress.gov/members/find...
This administration has chipped away at the laws of this country to strip unaccompanied children of their rights to a meaningful and fair process. Now the federal agencies charged with caring for unaccompanied kids are trying to relocate them to Texas to deport them more rapidly.
As Americans gather to celebrate the holiday with loved ones, we and other child advocates are on alert. Reporting from the @texastribune.org indicates the federal government is attempting a mass deportation of unaccompanied children.🧸 🔗 bit.ly/4wnKH6P

Washtenaw County policies preserve community trust, protect public safety, and make the best use of limited taxpayer funded resources. But the federal government wants local communities to serve as force multipliers in its campaign of mass deportation. 🔗 www.michiganpublic.org/criminal-jus...
